And unless im wrong then:

''ABOUT 150 MILES SOUTH OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.''

''KATRINA IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 13 MPH''

150 \ 13 = 11.5 hours

So will land in 11 - 12 hours time - which is between 9 - 10am our time ...

New Orleans Channel 4 reporting rainfall figures in the extreme SW of the state already at 2.5 inches per hour and likely to increase.

They're also reporting that 20% of the populations in counties around N.O are ignoring the mandatory evacuation order. Also now suggesting Hurricane-force winds associated with the depression as far north as Memphis!

I doubt that, The eye is scheduled to pass at 12 pm GMT I don't think it would take 2 hours from the tip to the eye to pass

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

How did you work out that late?

yeah i have just heard they are closing the bridges. Also a good point was made by the weather team on fox she asked how the roof of the supeer bowl was going to be able to withstand the sort of winds expected. And have you seen all the tall buildings.. eeek they have said that all the windows will blow out. this is truly amazing, i just hope the buildings will be able to withstand a cat 5.

I think the Louisiana Superdome (Go Saints!) was designed as a geodesic dome to stand up to hurricane force winds. It's being used as one of the emergency shelters.

On FOX it says, eye about to make landfall at 7am (12pm our time)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

No offense sweety but I would rather believe NOAA than FOX!!

It is said in the 10pm Advisory that is is ''ABOUT 150 MILES SOUTH OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.''

And ''KATRINA IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 13 MPH''

Do the maths ...

150 (distance) Divided by 13MPH Speed = 11.538461538461538461538461538462 (Time)

Which I round up to just 11.5

So in between 11 and 12 hours time ... that is 9 - 10am ...

Or am I being thick here??!

the only prob with that is that it has never been tested. and 1000's of people are standing in line to get in they are not sure they will all fit.

Given that it's going to hit and be devastating, why have they not got the military involved yet??

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Louisiana, Mississippi state national guard on stand-by, apparently - both in order to help recovery but also to keep order.

Beka, that maths works !!

I have just spent a while reading through and this is an awesome hurricane :( . To think there are warnings for the NW of Scotland tonight with gusts of 70-80mph, Katrina is 2 1/2 times as strong gust wise !!!!!

Bad girl :( !
