Probably a shot at the wettest summer in the last 100 years as well. Anybody using pattern matching to try and predict this autumn and winter will be short of suitable years I think.

well if this summer is so wet god knows how wet or cold this winter going to be I.e. with most rivers already full we can expect problems in a large scale once our normal rain season kicks in :)

Easily I would say

And the record itself will be toast long before the 31st

Looking at todays rainfall I suspect we could well be ranked as high as 3rd by the end of tommorow if the GFS is correct, the slow moving warm front today must have given some areas reasonably high rainfall totals and also the convection that has occured will also lead to some fairly high totals in stations to the SE and so a rise in ranking looks very likely.

I think the record will be comfortably broken, there is rain showing all the way through the rest of this month.

Amazing how many of those occurred in the 1700s and 1800s, in fact there's only one year in that list ( 1958 ) in the last 50 years. One might almost be tempted to say we're breaking new ground in the 'modern climate'.

Its actually fairly logical when you think about it, a cooler climate back in the 1700s and 1800s would have meant a southerly tracking jet stream is far more likely, what we are seeing now does seem to be rather unusual in terms of the recent climate.

We have a reasonable shot at getting to Number 1 in the MJJ combo and one more very wet day will probably be enough when you consider the next few days will be showery and add small totals on their own.

As for the J-J combo, top 20 is a certainty and more likely we will be in the top 10 and maybe higher then that.

This is getting quite exciting, isn't it!

Will we or won't we beat the all-time record?

I reckon we'll smash it by a mile. (not literally of course....it hasn't been quite that wet!) :pardon:

Please, Mr data, keep issuing the daily updates.

Well we've had 21 days that we had something fall from the sky be it measurable or not which is quite a run. Another wet month but nowhere near a sbad as June which would very hard to match and very unlikely.

Very wet Julys have been pretty scarce recently. There have been only 8 Julys above 80mm since 1961. In the 45 year period before 1961, there were 22.

Well bar a brief shower on Monday evening, the rain has stopped ( ) since Sunday. Don't think it'll last though, I may have a dry day today and tommorrow but Friday looks wet, and yes, I saw that warning Mr.D and agree that it certainly would not be good if it turns out correct.

If that were to come off I would imagine that all of the above records would be most likely broken since there is yet more rain on the cards for next week!

This is not great, if it is not overcooked.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_...t_warnings.html

That would probably send us towards 100mm for the month.

May to July record is nailed on and the June and July combined total would be in reach too if is anything like 30mm + over 2 days.

looks like plenty of rain then, given the fact that were only just over half way through the month it looks like the May, June, July record is certainly attainable, and may be breached by some way.
