Magnitude 6.2 WESTERN SAUDI ARABIA See note below

http://www.emsc-csem...date=2011-09-24

Please note there is a 95% error rate with this magnitude. I am trying to find out what would have caused so many monitors to go haywire. Many thanks to crepuscular ray for co-op on this.

Weird, it's not on their main list of earthquakes. The timing, however, was almost to the second the same as a far smaller one in Greece (2.7) so perhaps that was what they registered, really.

Greece and Turkey are enduring a Quake Swarm by the way. I do a lot of Earthquake research and there are some that are not mentioned on the main boards which is very strange.

From the look of it, the Saudi Arabian report you linked to was a preliminary one that was later refined and corrected. It does state that it has a margin of error of 95%.

You are correct regarding the 95% error mark. I would like to know what caused monitors to go haywire.

Just curious, but have there been any decent size earthquakes in recent years in the Appenines region.

Did not realise that was the Apennines. 95% link between large fairly shallow earthquakes in that region being followed by Vesuvian eruptions within a decade.
