New red alert out: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_...t_warnings.html

It's moving north folks, this is just a bonus some of us are enjoying before the main event occurs - just hope those temps keep around 0 or 1c

yes its hopeful. the alert u mention has been around for a while its the mild temps that worry me at the moment

The red alert is for England mate. I haven't seen anything to suggest a main event so far

I don't think there is any chance of rain. Definetly snow later on though.

I've just noticed that the warnings for Wednesday/Thursday are now gone. So much for having our main chance then!

Yeah, but if you studied the red alert areas over the past 24 hours, you'd see the actual red alert has moved northwards.

Edit: Btw, this is the main event - check where the front lies: http://212.100.247.145/fax/PPVG89.png

Ahh, well that makes things more interesting then  . Still, very disappointing in regards to Wed/Thurs.

I take it then that the main section won't arrive til tonight and will be at its most potent overnight into Tuesday

Guess so, but it's coming up from the south, so possibly slightly warmer air within it, but it should hopefully mix with the easterly airflow. 50-50 so far.

The showers are starting to merge in Dundee and we've got strong winds and alternating heavy and light snow, maybe a few cm's now.

I think it is a certainty that it will fall as snow. There is no hint of milder air. The main question is where will it fall and how much will fall?

It certainly looks like it going by that chart that Delta posted up Lovely front moves in. I can give you a more definitive answer after 3.30. Give me a pm and I'll fill you in on the situation :o

Another area of low pressure current moving back into SE England has started working north - thus the warning for NE England later on. The hope is that this can get far enough north before it starts moving off to the west. This may bring more prolonged snow for some parts of Scotland later in the evening and tonight. More snow showers becoming heavier this afternoon.
