Snow Watch: Nw England

Local forecasts definetly worth keeping an eye on considering the national weather dont have us in the script. Also nw radars and the forum will be very useful - learn alot more here anyhow.

The BBC national forecast map nearly always pans round this area without mentioning it!

Snowfall turned light here now.

By the way, has anybody viewed the 18z GFS yet? Until recently it was reluctant to bring the northerly blast at the 2nd half of the week. Now it keeps us bitterly cold throughout!

Going by the radar the rest of these showers are just going to miss this area unfortunately, looks good for Rochdale though.

The GFS shows a band of showery precipitation between midnight and 3am and then the main event tomorrow from 6pm. Plenty of precipitation!

In fact, the midnight till 3am band is getting picked up by the 10:30 met office radar on the coast of north Lincilnshire and Yorkshire. Areas south of Manchester should be mainly dry till about midnight.

There's still a fair few though, I'm just a little bit too far south for these.

Hi John - that's March '06 in my avatar. Big difference was that we had a major front coming from the west which mixed with cold air until the milder Atlantic sourced air won out. Now we are reliant on showers making it over the Pennines - we'll keep the cold more readily but precipitation is more of an issue. AQs happy days has mentioned though, the latest models are suggested longer and more pronounced cold - check out the model output discussion.

We'll have to see what happens later on, GFS predicts they'll become a bit more widespread after midnight for the N of England so a chance then.
