VP there is rapid convection to my W & SW - should i be hopeful? :D

Yes. This is the instability associated with one of the troughs (possibly the third one) interacting with a good dewpoint depression. The effect won't last for long, so rapid convection is a good thing. We might get diurnal cooling effects to extend the risk for another 30 minutes or so after dusk but that's pushing it a bit. Good instability is, also, almost certainly on the decline.

The radar makes unpleasant reading, the main cell is slipping south! Looks really dark over there too, really feel like it's going to miss again. It's so dark here it's like 10pm not 8pm!

I interesting to see how what was a fairly circular cell while moving over Oxfordshire has elongated into a linear structure (North-South) after Luton. I think Ware will get something though.

This cell has completely died and the main area seems to be to the south now. No thunder heard for a while now either. Just started to rain lightly.

Just had a rumble of thunder, seems to be bad over Welwyn Garden City at the moment!
That's probably what just passed over here in Barnet. Saw one flash of lightning to my east but there was lots of rain!

Whooop! There goes another flash!!

stonking storm - best for years - here in Essex - 5.30-6.30 or so - real ground shaker C-Gs, and at some times almost constant flickering C-C

crawlers across the sky the works

only just dared to put on the computer

the build up was great too

substantial rotation as well

one question for the experts here please - the storm was moving East-ish - well storms, there were several cells, and behind them - or between 2 of the cells - not sure - a very straight looking cloud (looked less distnct as it got closer though) - about 1 mile long or so came almost exactly at 90 degrees to the storm motion - very odd

Thats the one I saw the funnel cloud on the edge of!The clouds were so low you could almost touch them. Pic to follow!

If you look closely you can vaguely see the rainbow and a bit of lightning!

Well I think it's fair to say Bristol has grown some sort of storms shield spanning miles around. Have had nothing to day which not only means yet another thunderstorm let down but also no rain full stop!

Likewise mate, I bet a colleague that we would have rain before 7pm and now have to weed her allotment for half an hour as penance!! :D

Occasional flashes in just about every direction, dunno where to look.

And yeah, amazing shots. :D

Very ragged disorganised linear feature pushing through, looks a bit like a gust fron but I doubt it, plenty of rubmles now from a cell just NW of here, to my SE a clearing is pushing through, behind wich appears to be more cells.

We had one storm in rotherham south yorkshire this afternoon, frequent lightning and flash flooding on the local roads, and that's it!

Rubbish (how bad does that sound!)

Anyone recon anymore for today, or is that it for the next few weeks.

Rubling getting more frequent and nearer, storm will skirt just North, 5th storm of the day here!

Fairly close bright Cg.

This cell has just died on me, just light rain at the moment and getting brighter. Oh well, today bodes well for a hot and electric summer!

EDIT: Just as I type another fairly close rumble of thunder. Still only light rain.
