Yes a day of complete contrasts from the NW to SE as forecasted it seems..

the southerly plume has a long draw to it hence why temperatures have rocketed today in the SE, nothing unusual for the time of year, but still it will have probably been a shock for many after a period of relatively only slightly above average temps, further north and west other than the relative humidity it has been a case of the same old scene.

I was in Preston area this afternoon and on my return up to the Lake District I drove through a real downpour with virtual non-visibility and high winds, very bleak conditions indeed - what a contrast to sunshine and 28 degrees.. can't be many places in the world where you can get such diverse conditions in the space of only 200- 300 miles or so.

An incredibly wet morning with torrential rian causing flooding. I was commuting to Edinburgh at 6:30am and could barely see out the car window. There was an accident on the motorway and Charring Cross in Glasgow was flooded bringing the mate to a crawl!

Now its 13c and cloudy with spells of light rain.
