Here in Gravesend, there seems to be alot of thick cloud building from the North-east from the Estuary, is this to be expected?

Yes light to moderate showers coming in of the north sea , some have hail!. A streamer is possible tomorrow aswell with a chance of sleet over night :drinks:

Yeah showers are coming in from the N Sea, all of which will be of rain, sadly.

Have already had a light snow shower at 2:00 this afternoon, was also briefly sleety at 10am.

Hmm are you sure? Dew Points seem WAY too high for snow.

Wrong , some have hail :drinks:

Haha, I meant mostly of rain rather than sleet or snow. I wasn't really thinking of hail, but yes, some of the showers may contain hail too

Well it was white, certainly looked more snowy than hail.

Hi all, been model watching for a few years now. Don't post much though. My nerves are shot from reading the model thread and have decided to quit reading it! ;)I am not sure how this cold spell will affect me down here in Epsom, but the meto forecast for my area does not look very promising. Highs of up to 7 and lows of 2 or 3. Does not sound to conducive to much snow :drinks:. Does anyone know when the met local forecasts get updated? Ta

just started raining here - sky looking quite ominous as showers come in off the wash. Lets see what happens when they beef up.

The 12z run is very good if you live in East Anglia and the South East, seems a bit of a downgrade for the people in Yorkshire, Lincs etc:

There is some serious cold in this run, albeit next weekend. Daily maxima of -2c widely across England! Night time lows down to around -6c in some places.

That low pressure moves down to west of the UK, a great position for pulling in more cold air from the continent. Not much snow in this run still, but very cold and with cold snow will come inevitably at some point.

Just wondering; I know the ppn wont be particularly accurate in this time frame, but, is there even a chance north west england can get ANY snow, because of the pennines?

Oh and also what is the difference between 850hpa and 500hpa? and why is 850 more significant?

PPN will not be nailed till maybe +36, but eastern areas look like doing better than western areas. The 12Z did not look good for snow in the northeast but good for the southeast, though things are still changeable, and some heavy snow for much of Scotland, particularly Glasgow, and Ireland at around +168, before a very cold, dry Saturday and a full blown snowy northerly at the start of FI.
