Looking forward to waking up in the morning and seeing how much we've got. I'm hoping for a few cms of snow come 9am ish. Not too much to ask is it? :cold:

I can clearly tell by the radar that it won't hit Grimsby.

Not a problem mate :drunk:

Its snowing really heavy here now, looks like the showers off the N sea are starting to merge as they push inland. Easily another cm just off this shower upto now, could be some fairly impressive accumulation come sun rise, with lots more too come.

Currently snowing heavily here aswell now with a temperature of -1.4C. The temperature reached a maximum of 2.5C today so a minimal thaw. Several showers today have topped our depth up to 4cm again.

Its difficult to say how far inland these current showers will penetrate. The wind at present is fairly slack so they could quickly lose intensity over land. If they keep rattling in overnight they should be good for a centimeter or two top-up to whats currently on the ground. The current setup looks far more favourable for snowfall in this region though as the precipitation should be mostly convective. The problem we've had in the recent easterly flows is that we've been in the gap between the North Sea showers to our North and frontal snow associated with shortwaves to the south. The setup this weekend could be more promising - assuming the flow is strong enough. If the high pressure is slightly further south than forecast then it could kill off the shower activity and we'll be just cold and dry with occasional light flurries. Bear in mind though in a straight easterly as shown temperatures will creep up above freezing during the day and struggle to get too low at night. The North Sea will cause moderation of temperatures (along with any cloudcover) but its the price we pay in an easterly flow here.

on TWO, they said it could be a gloomy week next week with temps at 0 to 1c day and night. but what i can see it is looking potentially very snowy and also a noticeable windchill making it feel very bitter indeed. someone also said, that the atlantic nearly comes through, but i agree, the cold should stay and quite a lot of snow there adding to a whopping 30cm plus. You have to think about the snow we have currently, then tonights snow showers, then the weekends potential etc. all that snow piling up and also drifting

i much disagree, i looked at metradar and it looks like the showers are heading southwestwards and don't seem to be dying out at all

Yes, I think snow amounts mon-tue should be quite small though as slightly less milder air advects westwards. the less cold the air travelling over the north sea is, the less moisture gets picked up, so less snow...

I think wed onwards though, fronts trying to push in may give us heavier snow, but i doubt they will get further north east than the west midlands, if that. then after that hopefully a cold easterly should set in. smile.gif
