Guest North Sea Snow Convection

well.... a week tomorrow im travelling from the west midlands down to your neck of the woods, tunbridge wells kent to see mum and dad! im thinking there could be a possibility that i may run into some heavy snow on the way down! would i be right? pardon.gif

There is too much uncertainty about the pattern next week at this stage. The models are trying to work out how far north west high pressure migrates towards Greenland and at the same time what direction low pressure over Scandinavia takes towards us. There are hints that it might track southwards far enough east to keep the winds in the north over us and perhaps provide some snow for parts of the Uk next week. Northern areas look more favoured at this stage - but if the low pressure gets far enough east then any part of the Uk could see snow. There is also the small chance that low pressure might try and move up from the opposite direction and if this engages favourably with the cold air over us then that could be a source of snow down here in the south and south east as well. However this looks an outside bet atm.

In short it is too early to know about next week - a case of watching the models over the coming few dayssmile.gif

Time to turn in, but the radar is showing more showers appearing in our area of the north sea now and although the wind is northerly atm and these are just going to be steered past the east kent coast for a time yet, it will be interesting to see what happens when the winds start veering more east of north during tomorrow. I think we might be seeing the very early signs of that initial instability showing up to our north east as the upper cold pool comes in from Scandinavia and europe during tomorrow.

Convection from the north sea is hard to predict, so an interesting day hopefully tomorrowsmile.gif

Anyone else think think that 'heavy' snow showers and depths of 2-5cm is a bit rubbish. Two inches!!! My wife gets more than that...

Just had a very short-lived graupel shower. Only lasted about 10 minutes and gave the lightest of dustings.

Light snow here. :D:cold:

Carol Kirkwood just said south of Canterbury to Eastbourne for snow later, that includes me. :D

This is the general idea of the models red being the highest risk

I feel eastbourne will be too far west and south !
