Woke up to a lovely white scene this morning (about 1-2 inches) and snow coming down moderately - but the sun appeared about 10:30am and annihilated most of the exposed cover in a frustratingly short space of time.

There's now only snow on the grass and in shaded areas.

We've just had the most amazing shower, it lasted about 15 minutes and now everything is covered again. Enormous flakes and loads of them. Hopefully the temperature will start to drop and this will stay around for a while.

As previously requested I have compressed my pictures, I'm very sorry about their original size, I must adjust the resolution on my camera.

I have also added in a couple from Friday morning as well.

lovely pile here in m21 this morning, rapid thaw though, so little left by the time the rain began at lunchtime. I looked at the NW forecast which suggests little more than sleet for this week, any ideas on that?

Thanks for the lovely photos! I'm really pleased for those of you who are having your best snowfall of the winter - we were so lucky in January so it's your turn now!

The snow here has gone but it did look good this morning and caught quite a few people out. Looking at the last GFS we only have a low chance of more snow before Wednesday.

for a few moments there was a warning up on met office for here for tomorrow, gone now, must have been a blip. Lows seem to be heading too far south monday and tuesday but according to countryfile forecast too far north on wednesday with most of the region in heavy rain, could well change though two days ago we were very much in line for tommorows event

Yes as we are not expecting any precipitation tonight a hard frost is likely instead I would imagine some areas could record some pretty low minima tonight especially in those that have remaining snowcover GFS suggests -6 or lower could be possible for parts of our region so maybe no further snowfall but certainly a cold night and morning! Be interesting to see what some of you get down too especially those that have snowcover still intact as the temps could be very low for late February if the skies remain clear.

I got a few cm of snow this morning but most of it has melted away during the daytime now.

Anyway I am interested in the snow potential for later this week especially on Tuesday and Wednesday as even though I have had a lot of snow events this winter, and overall what has been a very snowy winter for this part of the world especially by recent standards, I still think it will be nice to get a very big dumping of snow that could rival record falls for a single event the sort of event I am thinking of is that of February 1996, could their be the potential for a similar event to that for this week as I have read post saying that their is the potential for very heavy snowfall totals for Northern England this week I did read that the latest Countryfile forecast suggests a mostly rain event for our region but that seems to be following the latest GFS output that puts the low further north (almost over Scotland) making it more marginal for us, but it seems to have little support from other model output including the UKMOs own model output and also I remember somebody posting on this forum that the February 1996 event was forecast to be rain at first but was then changed to heavy snow at a few hours notice, was that correct? Will be interesting to here your thoughts on this one also a question - how long did the February 1996 event last for and did it occur mainly overnight making the situation less marginal and is Tuesdays/Wednesdays event progged to occur overnight?

Sorry but that's just anaprop.

Even if that was precip, it would be so light it wouldn't reach the ground.

Just something the radar picks up because of atmospheric conditions.

ANAPROP - ANomAlous PROPagation - when radar microwaves are refraction by things like inversions down to the ground, and are then reflected back to the dish - as far as the radar is concerned, something is there, and so it displays it as a return, but it is not precip!
