Shows that proper inspection is needed and this takes a lot of time.

Them important bit here

There was no evidence of engine damage in the engine

trending results, but some of the turbine blades had been operating partially uncooled and may have had a

remaining lifetime of as little as 100 hr. There are currently no fully reliable methods available to flight

crews to detect the presence of a diffuse, yet potentially damaging volcanic ash cloud

Well heres the latest METO map for 01.00 tomorrow, From looking at this the ash will have to move at a rapid(unbelivable) rate of knots to be free from Scotland, NI and parts of n.england.

Exactly I hope these new decisions are not based on money rather than safety

Isn't the volcano decreasing in activity (then again he just said its increasing on BBC). So perhaps there's less ash than expected so they are making use of a "window of opportunity"?

What ? its called choice please dont slam what you think down other peoples throats , some of us have relatives far afield who we are willing to fly to see.

And crash and kill themselves and (possibly) others too?

Any ideas?

Some answers here Bottie, but I'm afraid that I think if you choose not to fly, you'll lose your payment as they have provided the service and you have declined it.

It looks like the ash is falling and settling. My car has been sitting outside my house mainly unused for the last few days. I ran my finger a few centimetres across the paintwork and look what I found! I only had it washed a few weeks ago!

I think what BA and others are questioning whether the ash is there at all. I would however like too see the engine test results published.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't fly through some ash.

The METO 'expert' on BBC News 24 really didn't comment on where the Ash is, but more about the activivity at the Volcano, bit strange that he didn't mention the Ash's location much but he did say Ash is likely to be over the UK for a few more days till the wind direction changes later in the week.

Very surprised they didn't find any ash while some has fallen on cars during the period.

I don't think it is the MetO saying not to fly? Just ash is likely and has been recorded in the areas they say? Is it not NATS or other authorities saying not to fly due the the info from MetO?

Mmmmm. Also, OK even if you accept that one flight didn't pick up anything, what about repeated backwards and forwards over a number of days: because you can bet they won't be going through the engine checks so carefully as they are now....

This really smacks of shareholders over safety....

Upto date tremor readings show an increase in activity, however visual accounts at the volcano give a different take on the situation. im watching the tremor readings now i just feel this is the calm before the storm so to speak.

First flights from Saint John’s, Canada cancelled due to concerns over approaching ash cloud.

hmm unconvinced yet... although on live cam there is smoke rising. Will await confirmation from a 'real' news source.
