Hmmm, from what i have read it doesnt look too good for storms today - more heavy showers and a few rumbles of thunder than proper thunderstorms. Still, I think if I was to choose an area to chase then it would be somewhere around the Humber or into Lincolnshire.

Only had a few spots of rain here in Telford overnight, the ground remains bone dry as ever.

Rather cloudy at the moment though there's not that much in the way of convection going on.

Tbh supa, I wouldn't even bother chasing today.

I think any storms will be weak out shortlived, Plus the fact that they could really appear anywhere

Yes i think you are right. May leave it until we are more into summer. Its one of those days where I could go out and chase, see nothing and come home to find there has been a storm right on my doorstep. :help:

I wouldn't rule out the SE for the risk of some thunder today too! It's really quite humid and warm - the sun hasn't made much of an appearance so far, but we have had the odd sprinkling of rain (hoorah! Hasn't rained for the best part of a fortnight here!!)

Worth noticing the band of showers developing across the SW at the moment - while they are aligning north east to south west, the general movement is easterly - I've always found this is the best set up for seeing storms, particularly across the London area and my area of Kent! :help:

Also, ROI seems to be having some very early torrential downpours - has Mr Hanrahan departed yet? :help:

Did have some welcome rain last night of 3mm which has dampened the dust.

Had 1 light shower since, and gone cooler cloudy at 13c,shower to the south.

just bought a full extra subscription and that NMM model puts some decent CAPE & Li over the entire SE for the afternoon which I wasn't expecting to see at all

Some small white fluffy convective monsters floating about in the sky, which should be a good sign for what is to come a bit later. I think around 3 o'clock and over should be the best chances for places from the Midlands eastwards to see any possible thundery showers. smile.gif

Take a look at radar for Ireland, nice bunch of hefty showers there. No sferics detected yet, but still early days.

I think Irelands stealing the mainlands thunder for today.

Certainly feels like thunderstorms today outside. Had a bit of rain overnight and two heavyish showers this morning with sun between lifting the temperature. Early days yet though so hopefully some more dramatic stuff later maybe.

Sun is out more and more here! :help:

Feeling VERY warm in the sun, so should it stay out long enough, could well be in business - if for no direct action, certainly for some nice Cbs drifting past :help:

Certainly starting to go here, convective cells appearing all over the show but LP rates at the minute and not sufficient enough cap heights. Very dark ominous bases though, so definitely holding alot of moisture up there. Very messy, can't get a good glimpse of the Cb structures.

NW Kent is not always a bad place to be in these types of weather set ups so fingers crossed you might be in luck later on :D

Just got a few glimpses of the Cb buildup. Nothing major yet.

I think Irelands stealing the mainlands thunder for today.

There is certainly quite a cluster of showers over Ireland with some green, and even one or two red areas to the blobs and splodges. The CAPE levels, according to the GFS look quite high for that area also.

Enjoy the showers, but please bring the biggest, most intense shower over to us. Thank you.

(Nah, I'm sure we will do well with the showers this afternoon). smile.gif

Looking good. One or two showers are already embarking on a journey through the western parts of the Midlands.

Western areas of the mainland kicking off now too.

All faring well so far. Quick development and yes, the main Cape and LI area is in Southern Ireland right now, moving Easterly.

Some heavy precip around that area in last half hour so it could very well be the case
