There's also another plume in the far distance left hand side now what is that. is there another volcano erupting in Iceland??

Mmm perhaps it's the lava flow but looks too far away. At the moment it's disappeared in haze.

That is the steam at the front of the lava flow - the steam you see in the voda cam.

You can see it more clearly here: http://www.simnet.is/jonfr500/earthquake/vefmyndeyjafjalmulaen.html

An interesting new view of it. I am hoping the fact of the steam increasing this evening may mean that the lava flow has started again. I suppose though it is just as likely to be the air temperature cooling making the steam appear.

Interesting - I think we have some volcanic sunset stuff going on. Orange skies all around the horizon as far as I can see, not just where the sun has gone down.

Where? In Aberdeen? It is already dark here in the Deep South :unknw:

I remember camping in late May on the North Coast of Scotland. Apart from the local animals (they go by the name of midges) the most outstanding thing I remember is pitching the tent and cooking supper at 10:00pm with no artificial light at all. Wonderful to walk on the beach around 11:00pm and see the sun go down. Ah I must go back before I get too old. Couldn't cope with the old lady coach trips though.

Nice picture of the plume at the moment on this cam,

22:10.pm Hooray! I am convinced the lava has started flowing again as the lowest steam vent, just above the exit hole, has started to steam.

Check the vodaphone cam and zoom in.

Pics taken 1st to the east, 2nd to the north. No clouds anywhere - planes obviously flying (see the 2nd pic). Very pretty evening here.

Nice sunset. It is as black as pitch here. Apart from the street lights of course. I go to Spain in 4 weeks time so I suppose the nights will close in even earlier.

Wonderful view on vodaphone cam now I have finally been able to get it. Is anyone else having trouble with the focus keep shifting on the Thorlfsfelli cam? It is doing my eyes in.

Yes, it seems to have some sort of auto focus set and the moving steam is making the focus shift. It is quite annoying!

Great view of the full plume here: http://www.simnet.is/jonfr500/earthquake/vefmyndeyjafjalmulaen.html

Oh dear. Have I been watching to long or is it the alcohol I have been drinking but I keep seeing faces on the front edge of that plume.

Time to catch up on sleep I think.

Wonderful picture on vodaphone keeping me glued to the screen. You can see the pulses of the plume as they shift downwind. fascinating.

Top picture on Thorolfsfelli cam seems to have ash on the lens!

I tried to wipe it off my screen. Doh!

we had to fly around the ash cloud today..

For the first time in all of my five visits to the States we had to be diverted to North Spain to avoid the cloud...

which made the flight delayed!!

so if anyone is going to the States be prepared for a diversion

Very misty this morning. Earthquakes have really dropped back, just one in the past 24 hours.

http://en.vedur.is/e...okull/#view=map

I think that means the conduit is fairly clear and the fresh magma injection is has slowed. Anyway she's going great guns this morning nice big plume.

Two new small quakes very recently.

Lovely to have a really clear day for viewing at last. Hope that's not 'famous last words'.

Now we can see that the lava flow hasn't progressed one jot. Still, she is still smoking well and a few fireworks visible last night before the cloud closed in again.

Ash plume gradually getting higher again and the infa red is really bright at times.

Ash cloud should be back over us later

Someone on the Eruptions blog (post #239 http://scienceblogs.com/eruptions/2010/05/eyjafjallajokull_update_for_57.php) has compared the FLIR image with the normal view and come up with this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/suw/4588384291/ It does a good job of explaining what is where.
