UK Outlook for Friday 27 Jul 2012 to Sunday 5 Aug 2012:

Rain or showers and gusty winds are likely across northern parts of Britain on Friday and Saturday. Further south , it should start mainly fair, but there is a chance of some heavy showers moving north from France during Friday and Saturday. At the beginning of the next week, temperatures across the south should be much cooler and there will be some rain and showers around, heavy at times particularly in the north and eastern. For the rest of the week, a north-south split looks most likely with the best of the drier and brighter weather in the south. As the Olympics draw closer the Met Office will have local forecasts so that everyone can make the most of the Games experience.

UK Outlook for Sunday 29 Jul 2012 to Tuesday 7 Aug 2012:

Sunday is likely to see a mixture of bright spells and showers, these are most likely in central and eastern England, where some will be heavy and possibly thundery. Rather blustery northwesterly winds, especially in the north, making it feel much cooler than recent days. However, it should still feel pleasant enough in any lengthier sunny spells. These rather unsettled conditions look likely to continue into the first week of August. The heaviest of the rain or showers is most likely towards the northwest at first, although there is risk of rain or showers across all parts. Southern Britain should see the longest drier and brighter spells, especially later. During the Olympics the Met Office will have local forecasts so that everyone can make the most of the Games experience.

UK Outlook for Sunday 5 Aug 2012 to Tuesday 14 Aug 2012:

Remaining predominantly unsettled, with below average temperatures, sunny spells and showers in most districts. Initially, the the showers should be heaviest and most frequent in the east, perhaps with hail and thunder, before becoming lighter and more scattered from the west into the new working week. By midweek, a northwest-southeast spilt looks likely to develop, with the north and west remaining unsettled and rather windy, with occasionally heavy outbreaks of rain. There will be some drier and brighter weather in these areas, the best of this likely to the east of high ground. Meanwhile in the south and east, there should be lengthier drier and brighter periods, but again with some rain or occasional showers. Temperatures will be mainly below average, but perhaps approaching average at times across southeastern parts.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 7 Aug 2012 to Thursday 16 Aug 2012:

Bright spells and showers at first, these becoming isolated in western areas, but heavier and more frequent towards the east and northeast, where there is a risk of hail and thunder on Tuesday. On Wednesday, there is an increasing risk of more general outbreaks of rain spreading into Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England, with eastern Britain probably drier and brighter. Indications are that conditions will remain mostly unsettled into next weekend with showers or longer spells of rain, especially towards southern areas where there is a risk of heavy and thundery rain. It will remain generally rather cool, but in any prolonged sunnier periods it will feel pleasantly warm for a time. The following week is likely to remain changeable, with the driest conditions probably towards southern areas.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 8 Aug 2012 to Friday 17 Aug 2012:

Although details remain rather uncertain at first, indications are that a band of cloud with patchy rain will move north across southern Britain through Wednesday, reaching northern England or southern Scotland by Thursday. Outside of this zone, the end of the week should see plenty of dry and fine weather with periods of sunshine. The exception may be northeast Scotland, where occasional showers are possible at first. Possibly becoming warm or very warm in southern and southeastern Britain by Friday. The dry, bright and warm weather in southern and southeastern areas may continue into the weekend, but elsewhere, a breakdown to more unsettled conditions seems likely with rain or thundery showers spreading northeast. Indications are that by the following week all areas will become changeable, with temperatures mostly around average.

UK Outlook for Thursday 9 Aug 2012 to Saturday 18 Aug 2012:

A good deal of fine and dry weather at first, although cloud may thicken to give some, showers at times, particularly central parts of the UK. It may become very warm, possibly hot in parts of southern Britain by Friday, away from the easterly breeze. Mist or low cloud may cling to some coasts. A breakdown to more unsettled conditions is likely over the weekend, with rain or showers spreading northeast, these perhaps thundery, particularly in central and eastern areas. Above average temperatures in the south becoming closer to normal. Probably remaining unsettled into the following week, with some heavy rain or showers possible at times. Conditions may become more settled across the south towards the end of the period.

UK Outlook for Saturday 11 Aug 2012 to Monday 20 Aug 2012:

A fine, warm start for most areas on Saturday, especially towards the north and east of the UK. However, cloudier conditions with rain or showers are likely to spread from the southwest to most parts through the course of the weekend, heralding a return to more unsettled weather. Thereafter, the generally changeable theme is set to predominate, with most places seeing a mixture of rainy spells and drier, brighter periods. Some showers are likely to be heavy and thundery and it could become breezy at times. After the first weekend, temperatures should be mostly close to normal for August, although it is likely to feel quite warm and humid in some of the brighter spells. Later in the period, southern and eastern Britain may see slightly less unsettled conditions returning.

After a generally settled weekend, a breakdown is likely in the weather for many parts by the beginning of next week, especially in the north and west, with the risk of some heavy and perhaps thundery showers or prolonged rain at times here. Drier and clearer weather is most likely across more eastern parts, but with a few showers possible here too. The second half of the new week looks to remain similar, with some wind, rain and heavy showers likely for most, but chiefly in the north and west, with the driest and warmest weather most likely in the east. Little change into the following week, but perhaps with temperatures returning to normal.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 15 Aug 2012 to Friday 24 Aug 2012:

To start the period, occasionally heavy and perhaps thundery rain is expected to spread erratically eastwards. Showery conditions will soon follow from the west, the showers heaviest and most frequent towards the northwest. Although temperatures will be around average for much of this period, it will feel rather cool at times in the brisk wind in parts, with gales perhaps affecting the north and west. Meanwhile, the southeast should also see some rain and showers, but here there should also be a fair amount of dry weather. As we move into the second half of the period, it should continue unsettled in all areas, but with some drier and brighter intervals. There is little sign of a return to the current warm and settled conditions.

Generally very unsettled with some sunny spells and showers but also longer spells of rain, probably most persistent over northeastern areas at first, though more likely in western areas later in the period.
