What a difference 37 miles makes :yahoo:

Lightning does seem to have died down a bit with about one flash around every 4 - 6 minutes.

Also managed to film two of the flashes and perhaps put one/two still images of the video up where the flashes occured. :yahoo:

No lightning here for a while either, Dont think its heading for you Gordon so you should be ok... I know how you feel... though love watching them.

I think urban heating played a big part in this storm, was watching it grow on radar, as soon as it hit Wolves it exploded.

I can officially say that after a 17 month storm drought and just minutes after i said about how the storms were going round here we got hit by one around 5:30pm which gave several flashes of lightning, some fairly loud thunder and also some majorly intense hail and the first proper downpour of the year so far.

Very nice and theres been a few distant flashes of lightning since actually though its been really humid all day and still is.

Well today has certainly been an impressive day for storms around here! All over the local news about landslides and road closures, including the Central Motorway which is one of the main roads around here. Possibly the best storm since 2005, simply because of the amount of lightning strikes which were so close; many were followed by thunder less than 5 seconds afterwards. Probably won't be another like it until 2015 though!

The only disappointing thing was that there was only 5 minutes of medium-sized hail, the rest of the time it was just extreme rainfall. I recorded 29mm in an hour, and 34mm today
