Up to 15C today......amazing but very pleasing.:D

Aye, was a lovely afternoon - and a pleasant evening ahead. Much much better than I thought, with a long sunny spell underway.

Looking increasingly like high pressure will begin to dominate post-weekend. Colder fronts maybe scraping the NW at times, but settled and if the sun comes out, fair bit of nice spring weather around and warm.

No complaints from me on that.

Does seem to be a continuing theme - spell of rather unimpressive/relatively weak Altantic zonal followed by a 'post modern winter spring high' centred close to the UK. This does qualify right, or is it not round enough?:whistling:

A very good summary SS.

Current temps 10C with a fair breeze!

Ensembles shows the short loss of HP before a return to settled:

Here's the only really significant chance of rain Tues on the Fax:

Could be misty near the east coast at times in the mornings however. Inland, good chances for sunny spells which will feel nice. Not super warm, but with light winds could feel so in the sun.

First cut of the grass tomorrow for me - garden well into spring with the daffs just starting to drop their flowers now. Everything else doing really well.

EDIT. Just for old times sake...

Wow NE'ly at T336!

(déjà vu alert)

I thought high pressures were supposed to be tyre-shaped - you know, summer tyre shaped please...

Sunday & Monday starting to look rather pleasant especially after a couple of glasses of beaujolais... god this stuff slips down easily.

Aye, deceptive day outside today, sun at times, but step out and it's got a real nip. Top temp today of 13Ccold.gif

Maxed at 15 C here very briefly. Aye, look out the window and you're thinking burgers sizzling on the BBQ, but step outside and yep, still April. Nice enough all the same - dry and mainly sunny with just a light breeze.

After a wee colder incursion with some rain wed/thurs, looks like next weekend could hold more al fresco potential...

16.3 C, just the lightest of breezes and sun splitting the heavens here. Lovely.

Time for lunch al fresco methinks.

EDIT at 4 pm. Cracking day. 19.5 C, really warm in the sun. Lunch al fresco, dinner too it looks like.

Maxed at 16.8c but in bright sunshine felt warmer. With clear skies could get quite cool again tonight.

Cracking day today. Max @ 19.5c but a light breeze made it better than last Sunday. Spent the day eating al fresco and cleaning the tar from the family wagon ( bloody m80 works!!!)Looking for gardening advice. Back yard grasses but holds water. Soil is heavy clay, need best drainage solution, and whether to relay or recover what I have.

Speaking as a geologist....

You are always going to have a fight with clay. Will not go away without a bit of work.

Best solution depends on location, i.e. slope of the land etc.

My mate in falkirk (glacial boulder clay) had the same problem and we sorted it fairly simply. If you can take some pics of the lawn I should be able you help you keep it from staying wet. feel free to PM these.

Superb day here max of 17c and bright blue skies with unbroken sunshine. Got into our own garden today to weed now fields are sown and with such low humidities dutch hoed weeds are dead in 30 minutes. Cows going out every day to acclimatise to grass and due for full turnout next weekend along with their calves so will cut grasses then and only then as I have always said if there is enough grass to cut on the lawn then the cattle should be out. It has been the most wonderful April and the newly sown crop has had a wonderful start and on our cly soil drought is a long way away especially as it was ploughed early last November and this will help to retain soil moisture.

Apologies for my ignorance, but why does ploughing in November help moisture retention in April?

Anyway... We reached 19C today although I was writing another flaming report  so only sampled it in short bursts. Report done and sent with invoice :D Plenty of hot water from the panels so the washing machine got a good work out. (Why do you have to diddle modern washing machines by squirting hot water directly into the soap drawer? )

Off out tomorrow :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Time to get the shorts and suncream out...

There were a fair few folk with the shorts and t-shirts out on CairnGorm today without the suncream judging by some of the lobsters I saw in the car park late afternoon - hell their going to have a painful Monday!

Early ploughing in late autumn has all the winter rain falling on it and over the winter becomes more compacted with next to no spaces between the soil lumps or particles effectively sealing in a lot more of the moisture whereas late ploughing in spring certainly initially contains many open areas between the soil lumps or particles down to the base of the furrow and therefore is much more open to the effects of the low humidity drying winds of spring and any secondary cultivations dry it out even further.

Another nice day with a maximum of 18c but cloud built a bit and have just had a few large raindrops from what looks like a coppery thundery cloud. Really strange to see a heavy thundery looking sky in April.

I must admit to be watching the medium range charts with some concern - and hoping the high progged to our north east from the weekend doesn't manoeuvre in such a way as to bring an easterly breeze. Because at this time of year that will mean one thing for Edinburgh and the east coast - HAAR
