Getting whiter now half crown flakes falling steadily! Remember when I was a kid in the sixties that if we got W or NW wind and snow it was always a bit damp but heavy and could pile up very quickly . N or E winds gave drier finer snow.

I am lurking (if anyone cares! LOL)

Will not have too much to report here due to the "snow shadow" effect!

Of course we care, we're trying to locate the non-lurkers!!

Who was the guy from Aberdeen with the wonky keyboard that wouldn't type the letter E????

BBC Forecast says -4C here on Monday night but not quite as cold as -10C in Braemar.

Also can someone clarify what's meant to happen of Tuesday night, Widespread temperatures of 0-1C and heavy, widespread rain - snow?

I think we'll need Mondy's list of winter links for the upcoming cold spell.

With much of the north of Scotland getting hammered by snow it really is starting to feel a lot like winter.

I also feel like the only member in the Central Belt who's got any wintry weather!!!

Do we still have that page of links? http://www.sat24.com/en/gb A nice view of the swirl

http://trafficscotland.org/lev/ Glen Ogle getting a decent pasting right now

http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/expertcharts?LANG=en&MENU=0000000000&CONT=ukuk&MODELL=nae&MODELLTYP=1&BASE=-&VAR=t850&HH=36&ZOOM=0&ARCHIV=0&WMO=&PERIOD=

The NAE luck lives up to its name for many of us

http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ 'Cooncil radar', so to speak, in the same sense as the NAE is 'cooncil mesoscale modelling' - netweather extra updates every 5 minutes and has postcode zoom +precipitation type

Anything else?

Yes, that's me (but shhh don't tell anyone lol). I love this thread/forum because of the wealth of information it gives from all corners of Scotland - something that seems unavailable elsewhere. If I can't get my own snow it is nice to see/read about some not too far away!

Hi Gilly,

You can update us on the move at your own speed, so good that you're still here. So good to hear from u. Is your wrist ok now, did you not break it last year and it was slow to heal???

NAE suggests Ayrshire in the firing line tomorrow night http://expertcharts.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2011/12/03/basis12/ukuk/prty/11120506_0312.gif and Merseyside into Monday rush hour too - who'da thunk it?

The NMM is however a bit more detailed on precipitation and tends to give a better idea of how much precipitation is going to get past the grampian massif and where it'll hit.

As for Tuesday night - it currently looks like a snow to rain and perhaps back to snow event http://hw.nwstatic.co.uk/ecmimages/20111203/12/ecmt850.072.png but it's too early to firm up on just how that will play out - hopefully the odd 'southgrade' pushes us into the all snow zone.
