Blimey even this far north (just to the north of Birmingham) I can already see the cirrus overspill from the MCS forming in the SW, quite remarkable considering the storm cores are 200 miles away!

Temperature already up to 24c with a dew point temp of 18c.....without a single cloud in the sky and just a very light SE breeze. Laverly!

Beginning to see high cirrus clouds, showing instability from the SW, there must be alot of available energy today, i have high hopes that everyone in the south/southeast will see spectacular storms today.

also going thundery, the air smells ELECTRIC

Probably from around 2-3pm today, and just going with the flow at the moment, pretty worried this Cirrus Canopy might affect anything Surface wise from that bloody MCS In the Channel!

Had the same last month in Kansas, MCS Formed in the Texas Panhandle and the Cirrus Overspread killed and surpressed Convection :cray:

just spotted this, very good point Paul, this would seriously pee a lot of members off!! SAT24 visi & infra red imagery suggests the overspill is going to head up the spine of the country the next 2-3 hours..A question of waiting & seeing

Hi Coast, where can you find the Skew-T charts on Weatheronline? (I know you can get them on NW btw :) )

Edit: It's ok, I've found them! Although they are far more limited than the ones you get on NW.

Have to wait until morning for the MCS?

post-5986-0-31960600-1309167753_thumb.pn

Indeed...but this should give me hopefully hours of photography opportunities as they line up over the Channel!

It looks entirely plausible at the moment the whole horizon could be a disco! :yahoo:

I would seriously recommend anyone hanging back for home grown severe potential, to get down to the south/south east coastline afterwards. Even if you're waiting several hours for the goods to arrive I cannot emphasise enough the pleasure you'll have sitting on the beach, hot and humid night, watching potential spectacular lightning displays in the anticipation its got your name on it :D

Where the rain/storms are now is more west to where they were predicted, no?

Still, most models see this current area moving over the Midlands with perhaps some homegrown storms later this evening SE of this region.

Loving these charts... large hail and tornado warning from ESTOFEX.

Interesting developments on the side issues locally now:

Met Office and police predict flash flooding for Sussex

First we had the heatwave – now we are being warned about flash flooding today. Police and forecasters issued the warning for Sussex. A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A flood alert has been issued. We have been warned there could be very heavy rainfall, flash flooding, thunderstorms and even hail stones.

“The message to motorists is to take care. If you need to go at 10mph, then go at 10mph.†A Met Office spokesman told The Argus: “There is risk of heavy showers in the evening. “The forecast is bad for evening rush-hour time. “Not everywhere is going to get showers but some places definitely will, heading down from the north. “There will also be showers coming up from France and they could merge. “You may not see anything but Sussex could get some very lively showers and hail just for good measure. “This is the first time this year there has been very high temperatures followed by a thunderstorm.

“But we are paying for a day of sunshine. “The good news is it will get better as the week goes on.â€
