Distant rumbles of thunder in Newcastle now, storms firing to my West and Northwest.

Is that about your 11th or 12th this year? Ridiculous now!

Give us some down here!

To be fair, they've hardly been very big "storms". Been lots of rain but i've barely seen a flash of lightning in years around here.

You've missed nothing really! Mind you, its getting very dark again here.

Interesting to see the surface Low now developing East of the Wash, this axis shift is whats going to pivot the trough North-southwards along that leading edge which is moving southwards currently from Lancs-Scarborough. With the current convection not going anywhere soon over Lincs as it does so.

There is a huge black cloud over the house (I am in Slatyford area of Newcastle at present) and I am watching the base literally start to rotate it looks amazing like, first time I have ever seen anything like that...

Huge lump of nasty coming up from the West here in Benny (Burgess) Hill, promises some big rain if nothing else:

About 12 years ago i watch a small tornado form like that in Gosforth. It didn't touch the ground but was no doubt what it was...

The lightning display is back up and running on the v4 radar, sorry for the problem - we switched to new servers this morning and had a few teething troubles :)

Not sure what it was although maybe in another country it may have developed into something! The base looked like to was rotating the opposite way to the top was amazing! Rain is pouring down here now no thunder heard yet though..

I just got back from North Ferriby and while I was there it was absolutely torrential rain with localised flooding on the A63. Returned home and it was dry in most of Hull and then slightly wet in Hedon. We got a shower at around midday but not much since then. Still no sign of any thunder unfortunately.

The first picture looks distinctly like a mesocyclone (above the two trees in the foreground!)

Is there any rotation there lorenzo?

Where is this radar?

Have just been out, admittedly for longer than planned. It is more humid out there now, and remains overcast with another large cell approaching me from the west. You might get the southernmost tail of this.

I posted on the regional thread that I would not rule out something tornadic from that cell, rotation if any is weak from where I am, would not discount it nearer Edinburgh. The Forth seems to be a hotspot for water spouts forming.

The shower to the North of Newcastle is really backbuilding on the radar. Maybe this will deliver more than just torrential rain lol
