The latest forecast on the telly has just downgraded for Greater Manchester, not looking to clever now, certainly wont be staying up through the night unless something dramatic happens in the next hour, good look in leeds and cumbria though.

Damn, a few flakes fell here but it seems like the wind changed to a westerly just too early so it just skimmed. Was bang on course too.

Edit: Spoke too soon, some more just came from nowhere!

Game over here now for tonight/tomorrow. Too much of a westerly flow. Trying to persuade the OH to come Trafford Centre tomorrow so that I can get further north into where the shower activity will be.

So you haven't seen that huge shower heading for you then?

Yes, more snow. Been watching that streamer of the Irish sea turn westwards towards me. Now hitting. Second snow event of the evening :) Hopefully give us a bit more snow cover

And within the current inactivity round our area the temperature seems to have risen a bit again too, hopefully that changes soon, if not tonight/early morning then tomorrow.

None stop blizzard conditions here, heavy snow and winds gusting 45mph.

Everything covered, including gritted roads.

:D

Nah Winsford/Northwich copping it. Always about 10 miles north in these situations, never fails

Nah, the sensor is on the roof. Being warmed by the heating. It's about 0.5 to 0.7C out.

My take is that i am quietly confident that over the next 18 hours i will see a full covering of about an inch on grass, pavements but maybe not roads, possibly more but 2 inches probably pushing it but anwhere in greater manchester / west yorksire or the peak district at decent altitude, you would have to be unlucky not to see anything at all, places like Liverpool and Runcorn, Preston and Blackpool i would think too marginal, certainly for accumulations although im not sure what the highest altitude in those places is.

It's very low lying around here about 30m at the very most although I have a good view of Beacon Fell (255m) and Winter Hill (456m) from my house.

To get any kind of elevation you really have to head just East of Preston towards Grimsargh (80m) and Longridge (110m)

Shouldn't really affect it that much on the outside, heating doesn't melt frost/snow off roof tops does it? But I suppose 0.5c isn't that much.

If your within the guidlines of Wunderground (5 feet above a rooftop)then it should not have any affect at all on the sensor?

You may well at least be able to see some lying snow tommorow then, even if you cant step on it!

More of the white stuff falling from the sky again here, hoping for that across Cheshire to move in, just to add up the precip rates.

I really do. Makes it worse that a car just went past with snow on it, so it got close. This weather synoptic just likes to make me tear my hair out.

If I still had my car I'd be out chasing. As it is, I have no car and an inability to keep getting out of bed to check the lampost because my non-weather loving other half is asleep and there would be hell to pay if I woke her up over a couple of flakes of snow.
