Hard to say since there is an interesting window of opportunity tomorrow night for snow, might get quite a few heavy showers in, if we get the perfect conditions..we really need the upper air to be as low as possible..as I maintained before especially at lower levels where it matters considerably. -7C for the south of the region is simply not good enough unless the sst's are really low.

The lower the upper air temperature the more snow we get, which was perfectly illustrated this time last year...when we had -6/-7C we mostly missed it, when it was at -9C/-10C there was no stopping it, regardless of how warm the irish sea was, infact it played to our advantage.

Morning campers, good to be back in our own thread :clapping:

Latest runs from all the models suggesting more stormy weather for next week, GFS 6z run in particular looking nasty for us next Thursday. Outside the reliable but still worth keeping an eye on. There has been some kind of LP over us with strong winds for a while now, including the armageddon chart from ECM this morning.

Interesting times indeed.

Just seen the 11.55 weather on BBC News channel and there wasn't even a mention of snow for us tomorrow, or even the word 'wintry'. The term that was used was a band of showers.

Are you always so downbeat crewecold!

I'm an old cynic now where snow is concerned; it comes with all the past bitter disappointment and the maximum depth of only 5cm during 2 of the coldest spells in recent years. I actually have snow disappointment fatigue now so I tend to just plod along without getting excited.

Plus I can interpret models/charts/forecasts fairly well so I can give a balanced opinion of what I think will happen.

The snow warnings for the whole country have been removed, though the cold weather watch is still there.

Very strong winds here on the North West Cumbrian coast, recording gusts over 60mph now with my hand held anemometer, strongest winds later this afternoon with storm force winds over the north and NW Cumbria possible covered under the amber warning.

Nope, get very little here to be honest. I don't think there's been a time in my lifetime where we have had much over 10cm. Go a few miles further north and east and it's a different story.

The showers tomorrow afternoon will be wintry but likely to be weakening as the day progresses. I don't expect snow on low ground. I'd love to be surprised though.

I think Cumbria will do well though due to elevation and heavier band of showers there.

Wow that was some torrential rain from that Squall. Just had a gust of 70mph in my sheltered back garden. Temps and dewpoints on the decline.

Yes snow warnings have now been removed for Friday and Saturday. We now have wind and ice warnings in place for today and an ice warning for tomorrow.

I have honestly never seen so many Meto updates in such a short space of time.

Are you always so downbeat crewecold!

We have optimistic posters and posters who err on the side of caution but that's what we need to create an overall balance imo.

As for Backtrack he's probably in College.

Cold Front starting to develop north of Manchester, this alone should bring down convective gusts and higher 850mb winds as it continues to develop & edge southwards. Temps will also drop-off significantly behind the front, bringing sub-DAM pooling behind it and allowing the gates to open windfield wise over the NW.
