Becoming extremely windy here, 77mph max gust and the peak of the winds isn't due until late afternoon and evening.

PVC windows are bouncing and the chimney is at full howl! can't leave the house via the front door as it's west facing.

Cold weather warning still valid by meto surprised that has not been removed yet

Basically says

Snow showers becoming heavey and frequent Thurs night/friday with significant accumalations possible

snow sowers decreasing Saturday

I have seen no forecast to indicate the above today, unless they are concentrating on the wind and have not yet homed in

on the snow potential

talking of the wind take care out there folks

Squall line just passed here, moderate-heavy rain for a time but now slackened off. Wind gradient (as expected) has picked up now were in the cold-pooling.

Highest gust so far today is 58 mph, a bit lower than it was yesterday in the heavier showers. Perhaps the cold front will produce something higher.

MetOffice warning:

Showers during Friday morning will fall as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow and are likely to give icy patches, especially on untreated roads Some wet snow is likely to low levels, with 2 - 4 cm of snow settling on hills above 200 m or so.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as I may be visiting Cumbria on Saturday :)

Gust of 71 mph and the cold front hasn't even got here yet, about 15 miles away by the look of the N.W radar.

Is anyone else getting needled by all this 'Winter Storm' crack? Did I sleep through the day when it was announced that American had become our official language? Its a gale, a storm at a push, not a "win'er storm", or a "Nor' wester" while were at it! Not on my shift.

Anyway, its windy.

Looks like the max gust here was 29.8mph. Absolutely pathetic. Non event.

Went up the hills just now, gusting to 45mph up there according to my hand held anemometer.

Cold front passed over: 12.2C at 1pm, 6.7C at 2pm.

Now 7.6C, rising VERY quickly. At this rate we'll be back to 12C by 19:00hrs.

Just had a look at the NBC forecast for my area thus/frid and they aren't going for anything wintry! Why the downgrade thought everything was in place?

That was a pretty nasty cold front. The wind was so strong that the rain felt like hailstones.

It's been rather unpleasant outdoor weather for about a week now.
