Nearly storm force 10 sustained winds of 53mph at St Bees head gusting 70mph. Max gust here in last 15 mins 71mph, windchill -12c! my face is aching as I keep going outside with my anemometer, Can't use the front door at all due to the wind.

Just been to the higher areas of Runcorn, and we're recording almost 40mph according to my hand held anemometer, yet my weather station says we're not going past 20mph.

Knocked me off balance a few times, so 40 sounds about right.

The wind has increased again here in the last couple of hours, currently averaging 38 mph and gusting to 60.

Temperature is 2.6c and at the moment any showers seem to be staying about 25 miles to the north.

St Helens looks to be RIGHT in the firing line. I'm a mile too far South. Lol.

Wind is increasing here.

Gusting up to 30mph on my enclosed station. Probably way over 50mph in the exposed areas where I take readings.

Uppers aren't cold enough for anything of interest, -4 to -5c. No low levels will see snowfall, if you live about 200-250m ASL then you can get excited. A big downgrade from a day or two ago.

Winds will continue to ease slowly from now, and it's about time!

max gust today 77mph, not a bad call from the Meto who predicted 79mph.
