Quite a potent shower here already with small hailstones, very brief though, less than 5 mins.

London/Se Only,

Small convective potential - possibly locally medium convective potential (KI,LI) Where storms form hail is likely (CAPE,LI) and some are expected to be 'severe' (CAPE, LI, TT) although this will be rare if at all. Gusty winds inside showers, and CGs likely.

Happy hunting!

I'll try to get a pic, just wondering if surrey could see the same thing as me as she is about 20 - 30 nautical miles away from me.

I'm trying to write my dissertation but am getting distracted by lovely looking skies!

First shower of the day really building up here, nice white anvil emerging, first hail striations appearing and the base growing increasingly dark....looking like it has the potential to spark! Could it be two straight thunder days?????

Sorry..I am the bloke in the picture sorry to disappoint ;) And I will try..But its gone crazy out there now...Looks like a small shower cloud is heading at me now..I am in Bracknell at the moment in work..With my boss sitting opposite me so a little tricky to get a pic ;) I have some good ones from yesterday I will try and upload shortly...

South east corner is exploding in to tiny little showers :p

Already a few convective clouds here, a better start than yesterday by far! 52% T-Storm risk although I can't see it.. LI -1 and CAPE 230j/kg.

Secondly, was it possible that I saw a funnel cloud yesterday? It was very brief and out over the sea. No where near a waterspout, just a small rotating strand of cloud hanging from a small wall cloud that was formed as part of a cell. I will post a picture later of the cell itself.

This is what's sweeping close to Chatham (Kent) at the moment

Well you'd think so...not convinced yet although it's looking quite fine. If this is what's developing though at 10:30am, come this afternoon some people could well be in for a treat!

Just saw birds gliding up into it as if riding a pucker thermal - low and behold above them you can see clouds rising ahead of the main rain core....that's definitely a first for me!!

In fact, they're still going - a number of white birds (gulls I presume) just rocketing straight up in a circular fashion....staggering to see! I really wouldn't underestimate the convective potential today based on what they're doing!

It's quite uncommon for showers to electrify in the morning hours...the normal peak is from around Noon to til dusk when the peak heating from the sun is at its max...sufficed to say, I'm surprised this got going as early as it did!

I see.. I do know what you mean, it is quite early for something like that to sprout up. It's usually around 2pm - 3pm when it really starts going. The sun is strongest therefore the updrafts are strongest plus the moisture levels in the atmosphere are highest after evaporating out the ground all day. One question I have though is.. Is there a certain time period or does it take specific conditions to allow nocturnal cooling to affect any cells? I saw yesterday on the radar as soon as the sun went down, the cells started to die off however in the summer, after sundown, the cells go mental. Is it because the convection within cells during summer months is much stronger so they are able to continue into the night? I understand what nocturnal cooling is etc its just that one question..
