Lapse rates increase this eveing briefly because of a lobem of colder air comes across. It splits off and there is slightly less coldm coming in behind it but that should be enough to trigger convection, though we may have the usual coastal issues, though the night time may well help in that respect.

Remember the models nearly always under-estimate the snow risk in these set-ups.

Yes the UKMO Model is showing something interesting for this evening and overnight but we will obviously have to await further runs and possibly the 12z for clarification, this area stretches down into France and by the looks of things could be the occluded front we were taling about a few days ago so might not be much on it.

Even the 'broad brush stroke' NW snow risk charts for the SE are quite exciting for later!

Very light snow here. When i say light I mean would probably look you had dandruff if you came in from outside.

Yes looks quite interesting, will be on hand to report later, gotta go into the smoke for a meeting this morning but back by 2pm so if "and it's a big if" things get interesting then reports will be forthcoming!

Not too shabby for Benny Hill either Robin!

I just don't want to get snowed in here, I'd rather be stuck in my drive than the works car park!

Don't we all?

I think we all long for the mornings where we look out the window and know we won't be able to get into work (oh no what a shame!) and know that a day of frolicking in the snow awaits.

At work I have arranged with boss to be let home early if the snow gets bad so i can actually make it up Bluebell Hill as so many people had to abandon their cars and walk miles home last year.

The cold and dry theme continues from this morning's models with milder weather predicted from roughly next weekend or earlu the folloing week. Still quite far off though, so who knows...

Laura Tobin said on BBC news this morning 'good news no snow in the forecast'.

Pah

Laura Tobin is incorrect :diablo:

There will be snow moving in later this afternoon/evening :D:cold::clap:

Cant see any snow at all tonight not sure where you huys are getting your info from.

The only snow i can see is at the weekend when the high weakens and fronts start to come in and maybe give a couple of hours of sleet/snow but i think that is about it.

Roll on spring.

06z GFS op ....90% of the UK very cold until Sunday at least....better shape to the HP and good support from the low in the med......... good ENE wind angle into the SE, perfect for Thames Streamer. Time to dig out the snow goggles !

NE Kent would get hammered in that set-up, esp a touch inland. I've seen that sort of flow before give closwe to a foot of snow locally in that area so thats the area to keep paying attention to.

We'll have to see just how much staying powers ther showers have overland, Feb is a 50-50 type month for whether convection can sustain longer overland.
