Clear skies here now, getting a bit chilly! -3.7°C. I hope we can get a good low min tonight.

Thanks mate. :)

Temperature plummeting now like I've never seen before.

The wind is picking up but at the same time the temperature is dropping even more? Bizzare!!

Here is a straw to clutch regarding the possible Greeny block next week, it doesnt always need a long lasting high to produce a dumping, as long as any trough tracks through the spine of the country or down the east rather than in the North sea / Scandi, run the sequence through from the start, ring any bells?, that spell gave 8 inches in the midlands (where i lived then) and drifts many feet high where i live now.

WOW considering it's been cloudy all night the temp is still -4.3 with a dew point of -6.7. that'll explain the lack of frost.

More chance of having strong blocking to the NW this time next week than a major snow event, still, I guess we can't completely ignore it!

Lot of talk about a Greenland block actually its more of the Azores high ridging towards Greenland and thats not really a stable set-up and easily topples. None of the models are showing a Greenland block as we saw during the winter of 2009-10 and December 2010.

This is certainly evident in the latest 0z runs, only UKMO 0z has the Azores high ridging towards Greenland, GFS ensembles, ECM 0z (waiting for ECM ensembles) and GEM 0z don't.

I think we are also going to miss out on snow possibilities later this week, I fear that the threat of snow is going to be in the areas that got hit Saturday that is to the south and east of our region.

indeed, the mind numbingly borefest of a winter continues. The outlook looks pitiful for cold and snow IMO, only the UKMO offers a ray of sunshine,

My phone has now gone for heavy snow in Manchester in Thursday, and that's only 24 hours, I'm not going to get excited but I live in hope :-)

Could be a freezing rain/slush fest for us west of the Pennines. A stones throw over to the east could get something a lot more wintry. Quite suprised at the 10-20cm forecast for eastern areas. Does that mean the band will pep up or is it going to be a slow moving feature? -3c here
