Yesterday was rather unpleasant in Leeds too. It felt mild, for sure, but it was too cloudy and too windy to make any real difference and the windchill for a lot of the time was below 10C anyway so all in all very disappointed, and I was looking forward to a bit of warm sunshine!

Cumbria was definately the coldest part of england today. We have been plagued by low cloud all day with spits and spots of rain and light drizzle from time to time and maxima struggled to get above 11 degrees - a mild day but it still felt like winter. We suffer terribly from long fetch mild southwesterlies under warm sectors - the warm air rises over the fells and cools quickly producing the nasty low cloud and mist throughout the whole year - synoptics such as we have had today ruin a summer holiday in the Lake District whilst everyone else rejoices at the warm sunny conditions. We've seen not a glimmer of sunshine so far this week and tomorrow looks like another dull wet day - with a blue blob over the region. Hopefully the weekend may bring some brighter sunnier conditions.

The synoptics today are a carbon copy of what we had over christmas which brought equally dull drab weather.

Lol I love those mild drizzly days in the Lake District!

Eastern Cumbria is usually one of the coldest areas in cold spells though, and in summer heatwaves it isn't too bad, much better than NE England which is prone to sea fret.

The upper reaches of the Eden valley are capable of real deep cold, but also, being well inland, able to get relatively warm in the summer. Quite unlike the Lakes or western Cumbria.

The wind got up a little here in Newcastle earlier today which was surprising.

To follow on, last night I had a subway sandwich with extra Jalapenos. This morning my farts (wind) smelled of these Jalapenos.

Has anyone else had this 'wind' exprerience?

FI is FINALLY starting to look interesting - if nothing else I fancy some stormy weather for March with plenty of snow for the Cumbrian fells, especially the Pennines. Hopefully I'll get some cold, stormy, 'unpleasant' walks this spring with snow on the tops :clapping:

That is unless I have to travel to Wiltshire from the 3rd to the 11th of March, in which case I'll get total dross :(

Yes; often the car thermometer is below 20°C at Keswick whilst SW of Penrith it can be 22-23°C. Those sorts of temperatures usually only occur in Newcastle when Southern England is seeing high 20s or higher.

Erm, excuse me?... :bomb:

Very featureless skies today, and cooler temperatures too. Tomorrow will be wet, but then Tuesday looks gorgeous. Probably far more pleasant than last Thursday as we won't have strong winds, which gusted 40-50mph last week. With a gentle westerly flow and 850s of up to 10°C I can quite easily see us hitting 15-18°C in the NE, but of course Cumbria will be quite dull and cooler, apart from the odd sheltered location to the east of the Lake District mountains.

Look north earlier on (18:30?) definitely had 17C for Newcastle on Tuesday.

The inconsistencies between televised forecasts and internet forecasts are somewhat embarassing for the BBC.

With upper air temperatures of 10C and over, with a very dry SW flow, in addition to the fact that the ground is very dry is going to produce temperatures widely over 16C in the East tomorrow.

Maybe we should all guess the maximum temperature? I'm going for 17°C at Boulmer and Aboyne.

Cumbria looks rather miserable tomorrow, unless you like mild drizzly days in the Lakes like I do - wish I was there! :diablo:
