And to think that the media once again had to over panic the nation a few weeks back over a drought.

Well if the Express is right the rain we are having now won't get us out of the drought long enough to survive the heat wave of the summer !

Makes u wonder exactly how much rain we have to endure before we are officially drought free.

If the country was flooded and there were reports on news of ruined houses and residents swimming down the street we would still be told - "Sorry more rain needed I'm afraid" - pathetic!

My grandparents live in Spain and its been very dry there - much much dryer than here and yet - no hose pipe ban/ no mention of drought and u only have to look at the Spanish landscape and it's dry and yellow - yet look at England's and it's green and wet - go figure

The Express definitely has a strategy of putting shock headlines to try and get sales, whether it's to do with extreme weather or house prices etc. I guess it's trying to pick up the lost readership of the Daily Sport!

Watching breakfast news: "a months worth of rain is due to fall in the next 24hrs"

The environmental agency say the hose pipe ban will stay in force.

Even in one of the wettest places in Europe we still manage to believe that we are in a drought. It really is laughable.

Woken up this morning in my new house and the rain continues to fall outside :-(

Light rain on the drive in to work, now picking up in intensity.

Local radio (BBC Essex) said that Saturday would be sunshine and showers and Sunday likely to be dry, a few minutes ago.

Carol Kirkwood said wet and windy weekend on Breakfast News.

I'm thinking that maybe the low pressure must therefore be to our west. Time to check the charts for myself...

Met Office Charts for Saturday and Sunday.

I guess the local forecaster is taking a bit of a flyer to predict a dry Sunday, this far out, with the proximity of the low pressure, but he could be right.

I was laying in bed listening to the rain lashing against the window this morning and thought that if ever there was a time to hit the snooze button it's today!

Looking at the radar today I can't remember the last time I saw so much precipitation in the south, and watching all that water running down the gutters and into the sewers it just seems so wastefull that 99.9% of todays rainfall is going to end up going straight out to sea!

Only 5mm here so far, no where near as much as I expected, I guess the worst may be still to come but it's certainly more rain than we have had for a long time - the garden looks lush !

It's actually been quite pleasant sitting in the jacuzzi hot tub at the health club this morning looking out the window at the pouring rain.....it's a hard life angel.gif

Just stopped raining here, been pretty steady for at least 6 hours, though not torrential. Wind still quite strong. Off to Windsor for a meeting (no, not with her) no doubt the lovely M25 will be fun......

Sky still very threatning, in a sort of 'watchyoulookin' aht?' type of way.

I continue to believe that it's the government that is putting this country under water worries with there over crowding of immigrants.

Anymore and this island will sink so we will all be under water anyway.

Too easy to blame everything on immigrants. U do know there was a pretty serious drought in the 70's don't you? When there were thousands of less immigrants.....so what caused that drought? Lack of rainfall and huge leakages perhaps? Just like this time. When we see the stats about how much water is lost by water companies every day its pretty obvious that when that is combined with low rainfall we will end up in a drought.

I said all this in the drought thread a few weeks ago but for some bizarre reason some people are allergic to that thread :/

Sorry mods I won't mention this again :)

Onto the weather. I've missed out on any tstorms so far, only managed 2 rumbles last week despite being surrounded by tstorms! Hoping today delivers

Red rag to a bull post above, but I'll not bite, as I said I wouldn't discuss any more.

Looks like we'll have the wettest day for a considerable time here. Still raining moderately heavily.smile.png

Yep, rain stopped here and it's brightening up. I guess we might have heavy showers later.

Bring in the blue sky, seen enough water to last me a life time!

No point having showers of there not torrential with thunderstorms... Lol

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
