Just had a clap of thunder here - and another

Very gloomy outside. I know how it feels. I'm having a total mare of a day at work.

The storm has passed off to the northeast, from Hatfield Peverel. It was pretty impressive while it lasted (torrential) - best of year so far.smile.png

We're now having another really heavy shower. No thunder as yet, which is a bit surprising..

I guess there'll be lots more storm opportunities over the next couple of days.

I guess this might have been part of the same storm system I (and others including Helvellyn) experienced at work late this afternoon. I see TORRO were quick off the mark too.

Hi All, I need some help if you can. I am off to Centre Parcs next week in Sherwood forest. I know the general outlook is to improve but can you give me an idea of what to expect weather wise? Is it more of the same as this week with persistant rain or is it going to be more settled? I can see its looking like warming up a touch but the main thing is the rain.....

Went this time last year and enjoyed 70 Deg.....not gonna happen this time, but it would be nice if the rain could get a little less (i know we need it but just from a IMBY point of view)....Thanks all

Weather chap (Simon King?) on Radio 5 in the 6:30 am bulletin said to keep an ear on forecasts for Sunday. I was driving to work so didn't catch all of what was said but I think it was along the lines of very wet, winds from the East with particularly strong winds around channel coasts. Could be an interesting day for a stroll along the top of the North Downs - east to west probably better than west to east.....

AS

I've just pulled a couple of charts off the GFS model for next Wednesday. It looks like high pressure to our northeast, with an easterly flow with average temperfatures, which should feel okay. Hopefully much less rain by then!

Good luck

Next Thursday's charts. These appear to show a warming trend. Note the high temperatures on the near continent.

Just had a torrential shower here!

I hope you have a great time - by next year the new Centre Parc at Warren Wood (near Milton Keynes) will be open - maybe you should try that for 2013...

.....still got lovely sunshine here good.gif

Yes weekend looking interesting with another deep low but models not decided on exact position yet. I'd much rather it rained all week and was a bit drier on the weekend but oh well!

Just a couple of rumbles here yesterday, despite sferics all over me! Maybe I've become immune to lightning and can no longer see it!

Yes, the GFS looks the most optimistic for next week, on further investigation. I guess tomorrow may provide better clues.

A bit more info on the tornado in this area yesterday.

It must have been the same storm as I experienced, from this description.

http://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/local/9672258.Essex__More_warnings_after_Halstead_tornado/

Normally I'd have kept a better eye on it, but I was having so many problems with our work systems, I had no proper time then.

C'est la vie.

More of the same from the MetO help.gif

Yellow Alert of Rain for London & South East England :

Bracknell Forest, Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Portsmouth, Reading, Southampton, Surrey, West Berkshire, West Sussex & Wokingham

valid from 0000 Sun 29 Apr to 2359 Sun 29 Apr

Issued at - 26 Apr 2012, 13:47

Another vigorous depression is expected to spread heavy rain and strong winds into southern and some central areas of England and Wales on Sunday.

The public should be aware that this may lead to some impacts in terms of localised flooding given recent wet conditions, and that easterly winds may exceed 50mph in exposed locations, again leading to some impacts, such as fallen branches.

It's turned into a reasonably pleasant afternoon here. Lots of blue sky.

nonono.gif Squeeze me....I think you will find that is my blue sky and I'd like it back please blum.gif

Showers now fading and pushing away from London. Can see blue sky in distance heading this way! Fingers crossed we stay dry for rest of day!

And with any luck - after Sundays rain things should start to warm up next week with less rain around.

Ps.. Heard on BBC London radio earlier that this is officially the wettest hose pipe ban in history.

Says it all really about this so called drought.

The timing of Sunday's rain will be crucial to my weekend plans. Or maybe I should just go ahead with them and to hell with the consequences!diablo.gif
