There, I think that was a rumble.

Not 100% sure as the TV is on but it sounded like a distant one and the sky is very dark to my south east now.

That shower over south Liverppool earlier missed me completly. Not had any rain for 11 days!

Caught the Swindon to Oxford cell earlier today about 2:30pm. Nice storm that was. Was out and about in the car about 4 miles west of Oxford so parked up away from traffic noise and with good skyline views. It passed directly overhead, which was lovely as I have a glass window sunroof. Saw plently of approaching and then directly overhead lightning forks and sheet lightning, probably about 1 or 2 per minute. Some real loud booming thunder as well making the car vibrate and was able to hear the sound of the thunder over the torrential rain battering on the roof too. Only had my camera phone with me but took a shot of the part of the storm that was producing the lightning just before it passed overhead.

Once it had passed the rain curtain had completely covered all the defining features so all I could see was dark grey in the storm's direction. Attempted to chase it up towards Bicester/Buckingham direction and get in front of it to experience it all again but the A40/A34 traffic was too slow.

All in all a very enjoyable storm experience. I'd say above average for a UK storm. Car thermometer dropped from 24 before to 17 just after.

Interesting. Just gone very dark here, and a sudden breeze, feels like a cooler temp and a freshness in the air.

Well we've got the odd spot of rain as Sheffield shield shreds a shower that came to close.

Looked like we were going to get a downpour but it died a death on approach about 15 miles from here

It is so dark out there, skies look really thundery. I wonder if nocturnal cooling may play a part this evening?

Yes i think you may be correct... in all honesty I think today is done for us northerners. Oh well, another 4 months to go for something to happen.

Not got to the end of May without seeing a storm since 2005 (including storm chases) and look how that year turned out...

... i fear i may be clutching at those utensils again.... sod it, whos up for a trip to France/Belgium? lol

We had a great storm here in the past half hour with torrential rain, sheet lightning and violent thunder. Prior to this main event there was also a weaker storm earlier in the day at around 4pm.

Husband reported a TS in Northampton about an hour ago. Naff all here, I could once again see all the clouds building to my south, looked like they were edging this way but as usual nothing lazy.gif Sometimes I really hate living in the eastern counties.....

Missed all the thunder in MK today, heavy shower moved through around 4:30pm, very large raindrops but most I think were evaporating before getting to ground level. Potent looking cell has popped up just to the east of MK area, some good hard edged convection illuminated by the setting sun 15mins ago. Looks like it'll probably die off once the sun sets though.

I think a trip to france/Belgium is a good idea. Me and my brother are considering it this year but not sure of the best time and best place to go
