Some lovely warm sunshine in Telford though there does seem to be quite a bit of buoyancy in the clouds. Quite a cool breeze though.

Storms lying off the coast of East Anglia at the moment and around London.

Odd you say that, no storms here lol! Did see an anvil through a gap in the cloud towards SW earlier though.. probably towards Farnborough.

Question for the experts here smile.png

With most of us being in a NW flow today, could this mean showers and storms would develop and filter through the Cheshire gap one after the other as per showers that occur in winter?

I question whether we are in NW flow. I think it's more a NW/NE flow with an east/west split with the likely storms in the east.

Well the torrential rain last night seemed to be desperately missing its buddy - lightening, but was still lovely to lie in bed and listen to it.

Considering our chances were better yesterday and we got nothing, I am pessimistic about getting anything today.

Best wishes to all of you affected by the flooding.

The winds from the 850 to 500hPa layers do have a mean flow from NW/WNW.

At 0600z the 700mb wind at Nottingham, Hurstmonceaux and Camborne was respectively East, SW and N which is not surprising given the position of the low. A general NE flow in the east probably giving showers along the eastern half of the UK which is what the METO are going for.

Probably not. There.

It might have dried up here but it certainly isn't brightening up (unless you count pale grey as opposed to darkish grey) :D

Will any of these showers affect the F1 today ?

Well it's possible. There are a few to the east at the moment and they will be moving generally west and probably building later.

If you look at the radar and satellite imagery, you'll notice that showers across the country are now moving in a SSE to SE direction. As the upper low continues north and east, the winds aloft will become increasingly westerly- that is, the direction they'll be flowing from.

Funny enough I was just about to post more or less the same comment. Looks like Silverstone should stay dry.

That line is a convergence zone which is set to move eastwards to be across the midlands by about 4-5pm. There is some CAPE around too along with dewpoints of 13-15c and lapse rates of around 25c - so a chance it could turn thundery too.

Will it make it across the Bristol channel before it move east. Currently it is heading straight towards me.
