I am - and all I can see is a large area of drizzle making its way down from the NW wallbash.gif

u are failry well located i think. perhaps a tad too far north but u got a good chance. convergence zone from east wales thru midlands into east anglia. tallies with this mornings models, latest bbc forecasts and met office amber warning.

of course they could all be wrong but fingers crossed smile.png

Is there an amber warning now? Can't see it yet on their site.

Here's the CAPE / LI forecast from the Hi Res Model (6:00 AM run) for 18:00 today. May give a good indication of the likely storm zone, if it happens.

I can't wait for the storms but does anyone else have a fear of them?

I don't like them but have a morbid fascination of them, I don't want to pass my fear on to my boys but they frighten the wotsit out of me!

Storms, not my kids! :)

I have a respect for them, which maybe I didn't have when I was younger.

It probably started from a time, in my teens, when I saw the result of a lightning strike on a bungalow opposite my house - why the bungalow was struck when it was surrounded by taller houses, I don't know.

Basically the lightning had travelled through the house and had left scorch marks on internal walls, notably in the bathroom. I'd have hated to be in that bathroom, when that happened.ohmy.png

Imagine if we could store the energy a lightning bolt generates 0.o

There are over 16 million lightning storms every year

n average bolt of lightning carries a negative electric current of 40 amperes (kA) (although some bolts can be up to 120 kA), and transfers a charge of five coulombs and 500 MJ, or enough energy to power a 100 watt lightbulb for just under two months

Lests do the maths... Even with an average of 10 bolts of lightning per storm.

thats enough power to light up...

16,000,000,0 100 watt bulbs for two months 0.o (I think that's right)

Cheers John

A nice cheery thought for a Friday afternoon. There definitely seems to be a consensus forming for a change in the weather type.

Hopefully the kids and our tourist industry will get a reasonable summer holiday now.cool.png

BBC forecast now showing only drizzly rain for East Anglia, any storms look to be no further north than Essex. I'll get on with the cleaning and ironing then.

I think NS, that you are probably too far north, but never say never. With the fairly decent sunshine here, then maybe ourselves in Essex and Suffolk too could get something - possibly rush hour time.

I'm never optimistic about the chance of a storm being right overhead in any event.

I was scared of them as a kid; but then I got caught out in one when I was 13 and promptly lost my fear and became terribly excited during storms. And blah blah years down the line I STILL get high during storms. Not having kids of my own I've passed on the love of them to my sisters kids (now grown up) and their kids. :D

Sorry, gone completely off topic there. :D
