WTF for?? Drifts so big you're trapped indoors with family for the whole wintergirl_devil.gif ?

Or, in light of GP's post, no retail therapy! help.gif

Well I assume that underneath your floorboards are well stocked at that time of year? Coping would be a breeze would it not?.......Hic!

Just think of all that money you will save if the shops are off limits!

The prozac would be to fill the void should none of the above materialise. ..(But then you already knew that didn't you?)tongue.pnglaugh.png

sometimes the glare from the one outside the house causes me to hallucinate at times and see flakes that are not there)

Sorry, I think I just kicked a hornet's nest there... but anyway, thanks, yes, well-stocked on most fronts, hope you are too.

Why on earth would you think that?laugh.png it never even crossed my mind! No, not really stocked up yet because if I did that now, I would probably have to re-stock again before Christmas! Between puppy sitting for my daughter and finishing Christmas craft orders (or at least trying to as the puppy keeps running away with everything) it resembles the Wacky Races in here at the moment! and a bottle a night would go down a bit too easily!

So...total abstinence at the moment. However, have no fear, I shall make up for it nearer the time!laugh.png

Finally the west coast gets a shot at some eye candy:

ECM1-192.GIF?23-0

Bit of a strange run but certainly not a terrible one. Funny, every time the fog seems to lift a bit the next set of runs put us firmly in our place. Still looks good though, we won't have definitive answers until.....we stop giving the models ultimatums. But nothing to worry about at the moment.

2 things to watch out for:

1) everything being a bit too far north. This is the issue with both the GFS and to an extent the ECM after +168 hours.

2)a lack of ridging from the mid Atlantic to the Arctic. This is potentially a more significant issue, and it affects the ECM to an extent, although by the end of the run it's possible that we could bridge that gap.

Sort those two out, or even just one of those two, definitively and we're home and hosed.

It has, I wouldn't question the model itself but it's the link up that's the issue. Broadly we have very good agreement on the heights but at this timescale the nitty gritty starts to matter a bit more. In FI it completely flips and brings in a Bartlet type setup so no trend at +384 after all!

If GPs thoughts are correct and the pattern of northern blocking reloads over winter, then we're in for a treat come January. There would be a lot of gnashing and wailing if this possibly forthcoming spell doesn't deliver, but second bite (or third) might be the biggest bite of all. If this spell doesn't deliver then winter certainly is not over :good:

First 2 of 5 new pages for webcams, let me know what you think before I start the big ones. As these are embedded links to TrafficScotland not sure how long they will stay active for, but we should get winter out of them. The pages will auto refresh every 2 minutes.

Is this going to happen again? Photo taken on 27/11/2010 of a wall of snow moving up the Firth from the NE towards Inverness and us and blotting out the blue skies and sunshine.post-2744-0-18714600-1353718029_thumb.jp

Feeling very much like Winter out there this morning, very cold and a decent frost here too. Kids football cancelled which is probably a good thing didn't fancy the idea of driving the back road over to Linlithgow as it will be an ice rink.

More drama on the model outputs again today. Picked through them here . Apologies for not reposting everything! Always found that in scenarios where we are hunting for cold synoptics the 00z runs underwhelmed always to be ramped up by the 12z. Wonder if we will see the same today...

Great pages Cheggers - top notch. Got them all saved.

A handy view of the traffic or a battle map for those wishing to test Winter Tyres bomb.gif
