It was a long shot to be honest, I mean nothing else was really right other than the dewpoints, but you never can tell. Still -2C in Aboyne and Aviemore so they still have a shot at it and in fact the models look alright for them (though not for anywhere else). Cheers for manning the fort anyway.

Aye, frost has lifted now. 2.oC/1.8oC 1004mbs falling rapidly, Wind WNW. and very light rain. Modelgasm again I see? Still, you can't help but get a wee bit excited about future prospects when charts like these are appearing!

Blimey! rain just started to thrash down - wasn't expecting that. Haven't heard from my brother in Devon yet after e mail and attempted 'phone call this morning. Hope they are okay. It looks just awful down there.

Welcome Kelly! No hard hat required in this thread. Tena pads come in handy tho'!blush.png

Something to watch out for tonight: precipitation is heading northwards and has just passed the border, with dewpoints in Leuchars, Edinburgh and Dundee all between 0C and 1C. Now it's probably too high for the low ground but the NMM had dew points at around 3C down the east coast (once again, take note for future reference, NMM ALWAYS overcooks dewpoints on the east coast, almost without fail) so I'm putting my own yellow warning out for the eastern borders and areas above about 100m in central areas to watch out for some possibly wintryness tonight.

I did say possible, and not snow as such, and there are bits and pieces of green in that map.pardon.gif

Bizarrely the NMM's precipitation type is almost dead on and even contradicts its temperature and dewpoint forecast, in fact looking at its later stages tonight it's showing snow with dewpoints of 3C across the eastern Grampians.

The whistle was a whistle as in. Wait and see whistle

Spotted bits of Green and also some Red further North on the radar so thought I would share to back up your thoughts :)

Sorry, I think I misread that a bitrofl.gif

Does the precip type react to current conditions or is it just based on the NMM's precipitation type map?

There is a function on the radar with NMM overlays of Temp / Dewpoints / 850hpa temps. This to me looks like real time vs the projection from the model

I thought it was probably something like that. Cheers. It's a very handy tool, means you don't have to go raking around to find the uppers and comparing it to the actual radar.

Looks like possible sleet (?) on the Loaninghead camera.

For those who don't have the link to that click on the hyperlink at the bottom of this comment.

I am 12 miles south east of Aboyne and it is now 2.4 c and light drizzle

Cheers for the update, we used to have more of you guys manning your territories across the country. Hopefully they'll all be back next week!

Given your altitude and latitude I'd say that you've got a decent shot of seeing some wintry stuff in the next 48 hours in heavier bursts of precipitation.

Blackwood as well

Yeah, there were a few, maybe Soutra too but that's not all that much higher up than SS. Still, given his temperature he can't be that far off something wintry.

You are quite right, we are usually the first road to close due to snow, and the last to open!

If you're reading this I'm probably still asleep but I left you this message from the recent past. The UKMO and GFS 00Zs are amazing:

Glad I stayed up for this. Now will probably be a good time to check the MT because it'll be like Christmas morning in there, unless the ECM decides to go off on one. And if you need to settle an argument over whether the ECM/GFS or the UKMO won, the answer is neither because a) they essentially both gave a bit of ground (so far) and cool.png it hasn't verified yet. Look for upgrades on the uppers, that's been happening gradually anyway with our northerly on Wednesday, -6C uppers widely on that at the time of speaking.

Morning! Was slippy last night but certainly "warmed" up by this morning - no frost and light drizzle.

LS that is a genius first sentence...I was not long in bed after my first night out since May and unlike you I have been up since 7.30 with my 2 yr old bundle of joy....at least the other 2 are having a long lie along with the good lady....recently read at school in story book the quote that will be repeated a lot "my mums hobby is sleeping" right away in the MT

Oh and welcome Kelly you will enjoy the great analysis in here from many but particularly LS and Lorenzo (no offence to other members)

It's either gonna be really cold or it's not....it's either gonna be really snowy or really dry and the cold spell may well be a short one as the Atlantic roars back and the ensembles show a trend back to milder conditions or towards an ice age so in summary that's the model thread....to be fair some of the conflict is due to regional variations....when will I learn should just keep it Scottish

3.3c here so incredible temperature variation between cheggers and here but sharing the wetness
