Starting to snow lightly here.

We'll have to agree to disagree there as I think Leeds does really well for snow and I'm sure Cheese Rice/summer blizzard can attest. Though in the city centre it's always less than the suburbs.

Yup, i think Leeds is one of the best cities for snow.

We can get showers from the E/NE if the flow is moderate (20mph should do), we do sometimes manage them in NW (the more westerly this flow the better) but where we win over other cities is in frontal snow because fronts coming from all directions can produce snow.

I think our best potential comes from a low from the east forming (Feb 23rd 05 and Dec 2nd 10 were similar) because this could potentially produce huge amounts of snow from a stalled front over us.

It's also stupid how many times marginal events have gone our way, its almost as if you go up the M1 with rain, reach Wooley Bridge services and find snow from there northward.

Indeed, February 2011 was incredibly marginal, it was raining at high elevation in Lancashire, but appeared to start snowing as soon as you hit the W Yorks border.. virtually nowhere else got snow.

Hi Sunny Scunny, how are conditions turning more favourable? And is this the case for all areas, even those a few miles from the sea? Thanks.

Colder uppers are gradually working there way in from the east, if the showers keep up, then they should gradually turn more and more to snow for people living close to the coast, any that are reaching more than 25-30 miles inland should be all snow by now.

GFS18z goes for -9C at my parents late next week and the models tend to be too warm.

Certainly looking like an interesting night for some of us. Just been eyeing up a bit of a streamer getting it's act together. An area of 50J/kg CAPE off the Humber estuary certainly helping with a bit of convection taking place.

White world in the morning? :D
