Found the new 1981-2010 station averages on the MO site:

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/climate/leuchars#?tab=climateGraphs

July's average maximum this year was more than 2C below average, with sunshine hours of 102 being only very slightly more than for February.

Also, summers here are getting markedly wetter, very markedly wetter, with most of the last few having had at least one month with over 120mm of rain, while in the early 70s a month like that was very rare.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/pub/data/weather/uk/climate/stationdata/leucharsdata.txt

December 2010 had the most air frosts of any month in the series, a series which includes 62/63.

Just in- 15 hour shift yesterday and 13 today pulling people out of floods and water related breakdowns. Parcel van floating in Strathmiglo, Ka submerged in 'Muchty and a VW Phaeton doing a boat impression on the Cupar road, and lots of bumps, accidents and electrical faults everywhere. Was down in Galashields yesterday and heavy rain, but not as bad as Fife. Wasn't raining in Edinburgh and M90 was closed due to an accident. Seems to have stopped now but the landscape has certainly changed. Strangely had very few calls to the East or North of Fife? Hope thats the worst over as I'm knackered!

Rain eased this morning leaving a damp grey day. Shopping all done so next few days going to be pickling drinks.gif

Carol singing at the cross in Bonnybridge was thankfully dry, then a quick drive to the Wheel so kids could see it lit up.

Still a lot of standing water on the back roads.

Fax Chart for Christmas Day, first occlusion probably too mild for snow but the second one looks interesting, 528 line with convective showers behind heading for Belfast too!

fax96s.gif?27-12

Boxing Day: convective snowfall pushing in from the west, a front approaching. Can we stay on the cold side? If so, there's a big snowfall on the way:

Perturbation 13, if it came off, would bring the most intense blizzards in history.

First off, the trigger low heads south, dragging the cold uppers southwards:

gens-13-1-120.png?18

gens-13-0-144.png?18

The model really goes off on one then. With cyclogenesis at just the right (let's be honest, just the wrong) moment, what develops is an absolute monster, a storm of such intensity it would send a storm surge right down the North Sea and probably destroy the low countries in the process, along with giving 50+mph sustained winds across the country with heavy snow:

gens-13-1-174.png?18

Scary, scary run which would lead to major infrastructure problems across western Europe. Anyway, the other ensemble runs generally look quite good too, a bit less intense but cold all the same. Currently a distinctive peak around Hogmanay but we're far from there yet:

Morning, very dark morning, chickens are still asleep! and everyone in my household are still asleep too. No rain thankfully.

Dreading to look at the charts this morning. Hoping we can still get some snow soon.

Better catch a quick look at the charts, as a busy day cleaning and visiting and preparing for the Big day.

The last three days have been about as bad as I can remember since moving over here in 2005. Dull, wet, very windy and thoroughly dreich.

Same again this morning, rain is on, wind is gusting towards 40mph. Only consolation is I'm on holiday now and don't have to go out in it!

Looks like a horrible 24 hours in prospect with snowmelt adding to the flooding risk in Perthshire and Angus.

Gusting to 55mph here at the moment. Expecting a very stormy night with sustained windspeeds in the region of 50-60mph and gusts to 80+mph from around tea-time tonight through to the same time tomorrow. Theres also a possibility of some snow and we've already had some fairly heavy sleet this morning. Check out the webcam - surfs up dude!

Good to see my feelings backed up that we are cooling and getting wetter especially IMBY since 2008. The last hot dry summer of note to me being 2003 when we finished the harvest on the 11th of August.Nowadays we are looking at early September before we can start in spite of earlier maturing spring barleys which normally gave us a third week of August start to harvest in the last 30 odd years.

Also summer storms have many more torrential rainfall episodes accompanied by more forked lightning than ever before in the past Winter thunder and lightning is becoming more frequent too.

We also seem to have lost the prevailing SW winds which normally gave the inner Moray Firth a nice dry climate due to the rainshadow effect of hills to the south and west and winds from a northerly and easterly quarter are therefore much more frequent

Just my observations in my own neck of the woods

What a twit forgot to quote!!!. This post is in response to Lomand Snowstorms post No 177 2 pages back.

The hill road from Falkland has turned into a river with rapids. At a couple of points there is water pouring over the stone dykes off the hillside. Never seen it like this before.
