MO have released a picture of expected fresh snow cover on Friday but the 2-5cm line doesn't even reach fife and the east, while their warming covers most of Scotland...confusing.

do u have a link to that M1245

It's on Ian fergusons twitter page.

Wouldn't surprise me. Frontal snow has a habit of not reaching here. Warming reserved to the SW though.

It's only really a broad-brush estimate I suppose, so wouldn't take it literally, but I wonder what the thinking behind it is. It does leave pretty much the whole of the Lothians out and the snowless zone comes a bit too far west through the central belt for my liking!

A bit confusing but then details are likely to shift around a bit in the next day or two.

yeah that pic looks a bit wierd with the lines they have drawn surely if the snow is getting towards the north east then the whole of the central lowlands will be affected aswell.

I'm not sure. On the MO's own page they have the front initially struggling to get east, but arriving by around midnight on the Friday night, with snow (and some coastal sleet/rain at points) largely throughout Saturday and Sunday for most of the east, yet amazingly not one single frame shows Edinburgh with any precipitation in spite of it being surrounded by it!

typical met office video on the page they have that picture on it goes on about the rain coming in and turning to snow but only shows it coming into england and then they dont show what happens after that.

do we not deserve to be shown what happens with us up here.

Seen another picture lurking about showing basically all of Scotland with snow cover by and of Friday. Don't know how realistic it is with sw Scotland getting 27 centimetres according to this chart from meteo group. Eastern areas expected to see 9-10 cm according to this snow depth chart.

The NW local snow forecast for my area has 80%-100% chance of snow from 6 am on Friday through to noon on Saturday .That could be one heck of a fall of snow!

I'm feeling so confident I've declared a Snow Day for the kids----

Everything a bit further west on this run, still very good for western and central parts but we need to wait until the early hours of Saturday before the risk transfers east, with the showers and the occlusion starting to merge:

blink.png that's a lot of snow, trying not to get too excited but it would be great if Perth could get a few inches surely that would be enough to close the college biggrin.png

I think either way it works out well - west will probably get their snow regardless, central will most likely get the frontal stuff but north and east of the central belt we're either going to get the frontal system in all its glory, a bit of the front and a bit of convection, or a lot of convection from the east.

The College doesn't like to close though ;) I've been here 7 years and it's only closed twice I think....

Once was for a week mind (November 2010)... but you never know :)

It is that cold the light snow we had earlier is still on the ground. I am looking forward to friday, I will be very upset if I see rain here :p

Blob developing over East Lothian and the central/eastern borders.

Interesting.

Looks like Fort SS is getting some light snaw whilst I'm at work.
