Interesting that the bad winter in 1947 started with a depression from the southwest? Some bedtime reading

Well is the charts currently verify, that storm coming in should kill it once and for all hopefully.

Still looking ok for a snowy spell on thursday that I referred to yesterday.

13011706_1506.gif

Western Areas possibly turning back to rain with east and central areas fairing better but there will still be plenty east-west correction before it happens.

Max. temps on thursday

06_60_uk2mtmp.png

Dew points could be touch and go

06_54_ukdp.png

This is how the GFS has the snow accumulation by the end of thursday

13011800_1506.gif

Before unleashing this wee beastie for friday rush hour...

06_75_preciptype.png

Increasing the accumulation totals to this by friday evening.

13011818_1506.gif

All makes for very interesting viewing over the next few days.

Snowed here again overnight and we just had another heavy shower pass through. I have to say everything looks awesome so I thought I would share a few photos with you all. Current depth is 14 cm!

GFS 06z is spitting out a cracker. Absolute stonker for a lot of places in Scotland.

Edit: Waw! It's still wanting to give us snow by Monday morning.

Aye, its the old story. We need some degree of undercut for the weekend battleground and a cold fetch. So need some "east of south" in the flow although there have possibly been a few pure southerly flow snowfalls in decades past (can't think of many though).

Anything west of south in the flow and you pretty much can't avoid atlantic warming spoling the party within a few hours. Not that we need any reminder we're basically a skinny wee island surrounded by relatively warm seas...

So its cold undercut (+good uppers, good dew points) , and any flow east of south to have a shot at making this worthwhile.

Weekend could yet go the way of the pear. But high risk also equates to high reward if it comes off just right. We won't know till we get there. As usual !

Jeezo, I can't remember the last time I saw a snow accumulation map that didn't have over 8 inches for most of us by the weekend.

Definitely catching some stuff here in the middle of Embra. But its just extremely light and tiny graupel. So just cold enough aloft but can tell from the clouds theres no big vertical development. Higher parts of town and away from immediate shore/urban heat island could still get a suger-coated dusting though today ?

Another heavy shower ploughing through south Embra. Impressive on bypass cams.
