Nice one Aaron, this is looking good. Hopefully there will be some big disruptive snowfalls!!

Not if Matt Hugo's tweet is anything to go by... 3-6cm over a 12 hr period

Morning all

1.5oC and plenty of melt gone on over night

Looking at the radar and reports from the South East it seems earlier and eavier than expected

Lets just hope the temps drop as it comes as it might be marginal for some

Need to see some proper flakes for sanity and to cover quickly

Quick question - with all this talk of 'along the coast' regarding whether it'll snow or not, how close to the coast is considered along the coast? I'm in pocklington, just to the east of York, and am hoping this is going to be far enough inland!!

I would think you would so fine. Usually 10 miles is considered coastal. I share your concerns though as I'm about 3-4 miles from the mouth of Humber. I have read the reports from down south and it is snowing in Brighton so you never know.

you should be ok in Pock ....although you have relatively low altitude ,,,,,,anything East of Beverley and South Cave may struggle though

The heavier stuff is still over France the snow ahead of this is fairly light again and if the heavier stuff doesn't cross the channel we won't be looking at any notable amounts. As it is away from the hills the amounts aren't expected to be anything to tell your grand children about. Higher temps will also mean the snow will have a higher water content.

Strange we normally look towards France for Thunderstorms not Snow.

Slow thaw last night with a sugar coating from showers on the footpaths/roads. Too deep to turn slushy but it is where the snow is less deep and there are footprints.

Currently +1.8°C with a DP of -1.1°C so very marginal indeed. Gotta feeling we will get sleet unless the snow is heavy and there is evaporative cooling. Sleet is very common here in easterly set-ups that are in any way marginal and this certainly is!

Well latest forecast looks good for our region - Tomasz Schafernaker even mentioned blizzard conditions. He's obviously jinxed it now, but fingers crossed!

Thaw overnight with the current temp at 2C - looking marginal for here I'd say, but reports from further south at least giving some cause for optimism. May well depend on the heaviness of the ppn and evaporative cooling effects - wouldn't surprise me if we end up with a rain-snow-rain event. Looks tasy for those further inland though.

So the Met are now forecasting heavy snow from 2100 to 0900! That would be amazing.

I just can't see it. It might be 12hrs of something heavy, but the way the temps are rising and the rather obvious melt which seems to be going on, it's probably going to be a dumping of sleet. :-(

No chance, especially at your elevation.
