Cheers John.

Not a lot to get excited about at the moment then.

Fingers crossed for a surprise popping up over the next few days.

The Atlantic looks a tad angry come the end of the week. Hopefully it will be pushed back again. Worrying there are no favourable height builds to cling on to. Looking like we may have to go through the zonal train again and hope for a reload. Perhaps from the NE as we go into early Feb.

Rather mixed signal for snowfall tomorrow, ECM and UKMO GM bring some light snow to the south of London early evening then perhaps further north later in the evening and overnight, GFS has some precip across Kent and Sussex early afternoon. Will go for the idea of light snow drifting N across the SE tomorrow evening, with light flurries during the day. Tuesday sees potential for another organised area of snow drifting east across southern counties, uncertainty over how far north though.

Diamond dust occurs when there is a winter temperature inversion -- with the air coldest near the ground and a warmer, moister layer of air lying over it. The diamond dust forms when the warmer air blends with the colder, and the moisture it contains condenses out in the colder air, freezing into tiny motes of ice. These fine motes drift and sparkle, and eventually settle out, making them a type of precipitation as well as mist.

Another thing I experienced in December 2010. The best month ever!

I think it is finally over, although my well trained eye can still see some tiny particles in the lamppost light. They must have gritted since I last looked out, as the road is now wet rather than snow covered, the only sound is the snow melt run off going down the drain, and all that glitters out there is worth more than gold. Might even get a good night's sleep now

I drove to work tonight and it was glitering on the snow on the fast lane...plus it was very misty at the time ...

Been a superb day. Awoke at 08:15 with the kids yelling 'it's snowing', which got me out of bed sharpish. Amazingly it only stopped about an hour ago with a total of 7 cm's and I reckon a very cold night to come when the skies clear. This has been a notable cold spell where I don't think the mercury has gone above 2.0c over the last week and is unlikely to over the next few days either.

This is the reason I spend too much time on here, for day's such as this. Great banter from like minded weather geeks. Today's event has upgraded this winter to a 6.5 out of 10! One more big snowfall and it maybe up to an 8! drinks.gif

All joking aside, it does seem to be doing OK? Early days but maybe one to watch (just need it to run a bit quicker!)

Wouldn't expect as much as Friday or today, just a few more cms to top up the snow on the ground. Think low mins tomorrow night might be more of a talking point.

Still very lightly snowing in Central London. I wouldn't be surprised if some places get around 13cm.

Going sledging and making snowment 2marrow with my family. Gonna be so much fun. smile.png

Ok, as its still snowing in parts then, can you give me your depths tomorrow morn., say between 9 and 12.

Remember if you dont register an amount you'll forfeit your match and your opponent awarded the win!

Dont think they'll be anymore snow tom.morn (trys reverse psychology) and you shouldnt suffer from any early morning melt (stop it).

Hoping for a Snow Day off tomorrow and perhaps I can play about with the results and come with up another madcap formula to give us a bit of fun for the rest of the season and drive myself mad at the same time!

Want to leave you with this, 5 of my fav snowfall events, during my long obsession with snow and cold weather. No particular order. All in the Bromley, Kent area.

1.) Xmas 1970. Thames streamer, thundersnow. (watching massive flakes against the lamppost, o/side my window, listening to the strains of Sailing By and the Shipping Forecast. Thames, Dover, wind E f5, heavy prolonged snow showers) That combo more relaxing than an Ibiza Chill album, try it when you can! 15 years old and I was hooked.

2.) Jan 1987. Enuff said, most consec. days I've seen with such heavy snow and low maxs and mins.

http://www.wetterzen...00119870112.gif

http://www.wetterzen...00219870112.gif

3.) Dec 1978. Most severe combo of heavy snow and high winds, nearest thing I've seen to a blizzard in Bromley area.

4.) Feb 2005. After years in the wilderness, northern blocking returns and how. Only light with flurries at times but 13 days consec.with snow. Probably never see that again, restored my faith again and banished Ian Browns mod.winter theory, to the shredder

5.) Feb 2009. Probably heaviest snowfall I've seen from a Thames Streamer event, bar none!

Even if we do squeeze an hour of snow out of it (highly unlikely), it would only add about 0.5cm.. Not worth tracking that in my opinion

I drove to work tonight and it was glitering on the snow on the fast lane...plus it was very misty at the time ...

The only other time I have seen something similar was 1985,I struggled to work at the converter station at Sellindge only to get out the car and my breath froze instantly sparkling in the air,on looking around trees were white and glittering,we then found out according to the National grid control room it was -25C !!! we could not work because the wash rooms were frozen even though they were heated, plus you hands stuck to anything metal.Cable trenches had a foot of solid ice in them.By the time I walked (slid) back to the car I looked like a polar explorer with my moustache frozen...
