By all accounts the GFS ppn charts have performed best for our region recently

The weather system just reached stoke-on-trent.

That's what the radar says but nothing detected on the lamppost yet! I'll keep you informed.

I think the NAE has been the model to follow over the last week or so.

Seems to be a lot of doubt about how much snow there might be from Friday's breakdown front.

Personally I think GFS has been way better than NAE

It's starting to pivot-will miss us I think

Shouldn't miss, will certainly hit us, doubt there will be much left in it though.

GFS has the system about 100 miles south of where it is now. Only bodes well for us. :D

One problem, temperatures are fairly "high" so to speak, currently. So marginal and unlikely to stick, I suspect

The bulk of the precipitation seems to me heading into Wales, anyway.

Is there any chance of the temperature dropping anytime soon? Still at 2°C with 0° dew point. Not brilliant with this band hitting us soon.

I doubt it. I'm not expecting anything other than a sleety mix at best if it does make it this far North.

Yes, that cloud hurt the temperatures a lot, dewpoints appear to be widely above freezing too, so we're looking at freezing rain, or wet snow at best, although cold uppers will help promote the snowfall, though as you say; it will struggle to stick.

Sooooo it's started snowing in Stoke. It's a mere 15 miles away from here then biggrin.png

Some parts of Stoke have quite high elevation. With temps around 2C and dew points at or slightly above freezing it will certainly be marginal for those under 100/150m

Temp is 1.4 here. No thawing going on outside at all, pavements are solid ice/compacted snow, uppers at -5 or -6......it'll be snow

Light snow confirmed in Stoke. You should get some soon CC. Hardly any further North & a bit further west should help.

I'll await with baited breath the 'rain' :p

mad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gif Where is our heavy snow!! All these areas with heaps of the white stuff are either showing off or just being downright greedy if you ask me. I live in south Manchester and have watched virtually what seems to be every area in the Uk receive plenty of snow apart from us. Can anyone with any knowledge in this field please try and tell me why we seem to have been singled out and if there is just the smallest chance that in February we might be part of the gang as apposed to Billy no mates on the snow front!

Its god ,definately god...but seriously, I know how you feel..I live in hope for a decent amount of white stuff. Edited by greybing

The little bit of snow that I have on my balcony is melting as we speak. It did very well to survive the days sunshine but it is melting in the night - unbelievable!
