4" widely in the areas underneath that band, 6" in the sweet spot is my prediction, depends how quickly it moves up

Four inches in London? Have you emailed the Met Office to let them know?

I think it reflects lowish modern levels of expectation. I'm 40 yrs old and grew up in the South Pennines. This winter would have been crap compared to any of the decent 70s/80s stuff. One week of snow, two weeks of frost, big deal.

However after having been psychologically scarred by the modern British winter post 1980s, and now living down south, one week of getting the sledge out seems pretty good (as a kid it was for months on end - Eeeh when I was a lad etc etc). How times change :-(

Yep 5.9 average. cant believe the scores some people are giving. :) Clearly must be their first ever cold snap :))))

Hello London and the South East. Here are the scores as given by the jury in Shoeburyness:

Synoptics 5/10 - nothing that looked as if it would deliver much for South East Essex

Snowfall 4/10 - less than other areas and far less than memorable winters past

Frosts 3/10 - the odd few this winter, although by the time the cold snap ends at the weekend we will have had two weeks of very low daytime max temps

Total 4/10

As for snowmaggedon later on, I think sleetmaggedon or possibly snizzlemaggedon is nearer the mark. Then again, cloudmaggedon would be my hunch..

Looks like Boring-rain-and-crap-weather-maggeddon for a week or two.

I'm going for 5, 5 and 3 making a pretty rubbish average of 4.3333. Must try harder

Snow 8/10

Cold 6/10

Fun 9/10

all of these based on 2009 & 2010 moments. Sunday was definately the most impressive snow since 2010 and longevity of it not great butr doing ok

That blob is just pack ice off the coast, no need to panic

Ah, leave CWT alone - it's like having Tigger on the forum - or Pollyanna, remember her? - always playing 'the Glad Game' whenever things were looking grim...

Great to have positive happy posts, but not misleading ones.

Had snow flurries this morning, still got a little snowcover here and there and downs looked great on the train, 2C the max so still cold but would like the sunshine as it's been way too cloudy lately.

There seems to be a small patch of building ppn to the West of London right now - Currently over Uxbridge and heading towards Oxford, could be a nice surprise for some.

I guess I'll have to do my moderatory stuff here and say yes, can we keep this broadly on the subject of regional weather please. If you are experiencing something falling out of the sky then a little evidence would be nice and a modicum of posting restraint when snow actually falls, rather than 20 posts of the same basic comment in 5 mins might go down well with other members - cheers!!

A few flakes in the wind here. Seems that London is creating a small amount of convection at the moment, so worth keeping an eye on the radar if you live North and NW of the capital.

Small occlusion/trough developing over the channel?? Rotating and heading towards the NE at mo over Cherbourg, hmmmm

Saw that, looks like a lot of heavy settling snow for whoever ends up in the path of that

Hi Paul, my thoughts on winter so far here in Notting Hill, London:

Synoptics 5/10

Snowfall 6/10

Frosts 2/10

Was pleasantly surprised to get over 6cm of lying snow, plus it managed to last quite well - not that frequent in the middle of town!

I'd rate this spell 7/10, better than both last Feb and the second cold spell of December 2010 which wasn't all that great here, this though has had 5 separate snowfalls, with 2 accumulating more than 2cm, it's lasted over a week and we even had frosts lasting all day last week, but maybe could've had more frosts and lacked sunshine/clear skies.

Cold: 6/10

Snow: 7.5/10

Frosts: 4.5/10.

Keeping an eye on that... looks too far West for my liking.
