Elevation has been the difference between some snow and a bit of melt, and full on Artic conditions this last week. Anything above 150 meters in Stroud has had zero thaw and there is still a thick blanket of snow. Just been out with the dog and the wind is incredible, it's blowing the snow like nothing else and new drifts are forming everywhere, it's like the Arctic tundra out there.

Tonight should be really interesting I can see the main band staying as snow on the higher ground even if it turns back to rain at lower levels, and with the strength of the wind it could well be treacherous out there later on.

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW.

Another SNOW day in Newbury and having tallied up my days of SNOW lying, they come to nine after todays reading at 9am.

Rain will inevitably be along later but it will find it hard work to push my snowcover aside, in spite of another day of gradual thawing.

Currently 1.2c AT, -0.7c DP and 1008.9mb falling rapidly Barometer.

The angle of the NH Jetstream, as illustrated by the GFS 12z doesn't show anything excessively mild, bar a warmer feeling end to January.

My eyes are still drawn to probable changes in the flow as we enter the start of February. smile.png

Snow still coming down here, quite heavy! Struggling to settle on bare surfaces though, but patches are returning white.

The triple point looks quite far south on the Radar (quite hard to place it though, bit of a guess) therefore the mild sector could well be a little further south than forecast.

Here is the FAX for 12pm today, triple point off southern Ireland, although the lower half of the main trough is not occluded at this point, although it occludes as it pushes in, complex set up!!!!

Just mizzle here, but with a nasty, lazy SE wind.

Still cold here with a few flakes around 1.1c

Sadly we don't have much ppn around for next few hours while we hold on to the snow conducive conditions. lazy.gif
