NMM has the rain turning to snow around 1pm over North london, or around midday for Kent.

Still a lot of variety in this, whilst the netweather version of the NMM is paid only, there is another version of it that you can follow, run at a slightly higher resolution I believe too:

I still think snow accumulations will be quite large for areas around the Thames estuary, moisture pumped in from a strengthening easterly wind and the strengthening break away low should pep up the precipitation.

Early rain over western Britain is expected to turn to snow as it spreads eastwards during Sunday. Snow cover is likely to be very variable, with some places seeing little settling, others 2-4 cm, and with the potential for 10 cm or more over parts of the Midlands, Kent an Essex, especially later in the day. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption, particularly to travel.

I totally agree with you. Also the intensity of the ppn will add to the cooling effect.

Amber warning now for Lowestoft and Beccles.

Issued at: 1800 on Sat 9 Feb 2013

Valid from: 0005 on Mon 11 Feb 2013

Valid to: 1000 on Mon 11 Feb 2013

Earwigs and very small Money Spiders could possibly be covered by 1mm or less snow during the Monday morning rush hour. We would strongly advise that all tiny creepy crawlies stay at home until Monday afternoon.

End of warning.

Do you think it would be taking it too far to cut the bottom half of our legs off just to get the snow above our kneecaps?

Well I have even made my American wife face Mecca but I doubt that will make much difference to Anglia, or anywhere to that matter.
