This time is perhaps a bit different though because if Italy do win we remain in with a shot of actually winning the six nations this time as opposed to just seeing England fail.

I daren't contradict you, LS, in case you send me three days of sleet!ph34r.png

weak looking front or organised band of showers moving into the north at 48h

Nice. These charts look a little better than the 06z run which was still ok. Very interesting period coming up .

It's only a bit of fun and I wanted Italy to win to make us top of the group. Why are people so sensitive nowadays. If It had been Italy France and I had said c;mon Italy to stop France being top noone would care. Are we not even allowed to support the best outcome for our nation anymore. If England were not in contention I would not care a jot about their result. Sorry for the rant but lets not be so sensitive.fool.gif

First signs of the sunshine and showers regime from the train along the fife coast - blue skies breaking through the layers of stratus, no medium level layer above and hints of cumuloform clouds in behind.

i have taken a look at both the GFS and UKMO 12z from a northern hemisphere veiw at 144h and put in a couple of arrows to help show which is better and why

black arrow: is the atlantic ridge from the greenland high which as u can see is stronger and blocks of the atlantic better in the UKMO which is good for cold prospects

red arrow: is over europe now in the GFS u can see there is greater pressure here on the GFS which blocks the movement of the low pressure into the continent where as on the UKMO there isnt this feature there which would allow the low pressure easier passage into the comtinent which again is better for cold prospects

post-18233-0-56394700-1362851131_thumb.ppost-18233-0-34186300-1362851130_thumb.g

so to summarise at 144h the UKMO has far better prospects for giving us a reload and keeping us in the cold instead of the atlantic winning out like happens in the GFS.

to add to my previous post this time the ECM on the northern hemishpere veiw and i have added the arrows again and the ECM is more in line with the UKMO with the stronger ridge in the atlantic and less hieghts over the continent so better again than the gfs for cold chances and possible reload

LS a small thing u could maybe clear up for me as u have access to more stuff than i do but i have read posts in other threads over the last day or two stating that angular momentum is quite high just now which i thought is supposed to support sliders so why are the models not sliding that low pressure coming from iceland has something changed in the last 24-48 hours.

that streamer on radar is bulking up quite nicely hopefully it will keep building and make its way a good distance inland as it moves its way south

SK's map of snowfall accumulations greater than one inch over the coming week is worth a look - almost all of eastern,central and northeastern Scotland under that, presumably mostly from the next 36 hours.

<takes a peep at the radar>

just wondering whether I might see a dusting tonight if the NMM is right - seems to be an arc of snaw slowly edging this way across the firth. Probably amount to very little here tonight, NL more likely to get a dusting sticking around till dawn.

Best policy here is still to remain convinced that nothing will happen, because, well, it won't, will it?
