Woke up to another covering of snow this morning. Unexpected in one sense but did notice it coming down at 00:20 so was not a surprise in another. That's four days in a row, which I certainly did not expect.

Cold sleet at the moment with a temp of 2.5°C and a DP above freezing so no white morning tomorrow I fear. Nevertheless a nice spell of interesting weather that is not quite over, although there is some uncertainty about the start of next week....

Snow as early as the 18th?

69-574.GIF?15-6

Then widespread snow by the 19th?

108-574.GIF?15-6

114-574.GIF?15-6

All just for fun of course, but it's nice to know the possibility exists.

Well the ECM keeps getting better and better jaw dropping this evening and we could see a good snow event next week but again being cautious it will always be watered down nearer the time but for this time of year! would be great to go out with a white blast!

BBC showing a max temp of 3'c by Wednesday for Sheffield area so its still game on for a return of something wintry.

Its hardly mild today, around 6'c.

Spring still looking a long way off.

i think your right there Craigers, they did take quite a while to realise an easterly was in the offing.

Next week synoptically is looking very wintry, specially north of midlands... too many ifs and buts at the moment.

HI Aaron, nice charts for predicted snow by next tuesday, but dont you expect them to be slightly different by the 18z as we know precipitation predictions change on each run and arent reliable.Don`t get me wrong im not complaining... one things for sure though its going to be a snowy week ahead especially for us northerners and i hope the dividing line is right over us when the fronts push in from the troughs.

where did you get the minima of -12 from.. sounds a bit extreme

-12 appeared on GFS for parts of North Yorkshire. More like -6 generally.

Some very heavy precipitation pushing in now, could see some torrential snowfall as it's really going to bring the freezing level down. Won't fall as snow straight away but any of those extremely heavy echoes would bring something wintry.

Temperature quickly dropping at LBA airport, dew point now zero so I would expect any precipitation to turn rapidly to snow.

Charts like this certainly wet the apetite for next week

Snow level looks to be around 200-300m currently, but obviously the heavier the precip the lower this could drop. Some heavy snow falling over the dales currently. Send it this way, jammy sods!

Had mostly sleet over the last few hours but just had a heavier pulse which dropped the snowline into my back garden with some huge flakes. Didn't last long but looked good in my car headlights.

If there is snow tonight, it'll probably be preceded by rain meaning it won't settle. I still think it will mainly fall as sleet anyway.

It will be the other way round, rain/sleet moving up from the south with snow on hills. Turning progressively to snow at lower levels as evaporative cooling kicks in. On low ground the snow will probably be a bit wet, but could still cause some disruption monday morning me thinks.

Again probably mainly western parts of yorkshire.
