One thing is certain - it will have to be intense to bring lying snow here, unless its associated with some colder air.

I'm going for the S'thern flank ending up 100m north of my house ;)

Seriously, though,I think Chester-le-Street will be the S'thern most extent of it - Newc, Morpeth, etc to get hammered.

UKMO looks to be the final nail in the coffin tonight for the weekend snow is looking very marginal now, hopefully now we can look forward to something milder appearing on the models this cold has gone on long enough now I'm at my whits end with it

Same here, bring me some bloody spring weather. Can't remember the last time we had a day of 10ºc+

the rainfall gauges are crap put a strip of grease band on the pole to stop earwigs crawling up and nesting in it.

much better to buy a manual gauge online if you are after true accuracy.

What a downgrade. GFS & ECM show that -10 uppers might not even reach the East coast now. Looking cold and wet unless you are on high ground inland.

A little baffling, in the model thread they are saying the ECM is a better run than previous?

SKYWARN UK SEVERE WEATHER WATCH #014

ISSUED: 1200UTC MONDAY 18TH MARCH 2013 (GJ)

SKYWARN UK FORECASTS THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER AS FOLLOWS:

HEAVY, LOCALLY DISRUPTIVE SNOWFALL - EASTERN SCOTLAND, NORTHEAST ENGLAND

IN EFFECT FROM 1200UTC MONDAY 18TH UNTIL 1200UTC TUESDAY 19TH MARCH 2013

OCCLUDED FRONTS WRAPPING AROUND THE NORTH OF A COMPLEX LOW, GENERATING SUCCESSIVE SNOW SHOWERS

DISCUSSION:

THERE IS GOOD MODEL AND PARTNER AGENCY CONFIDENCE IN THE POSSIBILITY OF A DISRUPTIVE WEATHER RISK THROUGH THE START OF THIS WEEK. THE ESTABLISHED COMPLEX LOW OVER THE UK IS ENCOURAGING OCCLUDED FRONTAL REMNANTS ACROSS THE NORTH, GENERATING A REGIME OF SUCCESSIVE SNOW SHOWERS AND PERSISTENT SNOWFALL INTO THE NORTHEASTERN QUARTER OF THE UK. ACCUMULATIONS LOOK TO EXCEED 10CM OVER HIGH GROUND BY TUESDAY, WITH A CHANCE OF THIS OCCURRING AT LOW LEVELS AND CAUSING WIDESPREAD DISRUPTION, MOST LIKELY AROUND BORDERS AND NORTHUMBERLAND. THIS WATCH MAY BE UPDATED OR UPGRADED. PLEASE MONITOR WEATHER AND TRAVEL INFO AS NECESSARY.

So is this snow event back on for this weekend? The Met Office seem confident with their 3-5 day regional forecasts.

the models are all over the place but it looks like the gfs is starting to come inline with ukmo and ecm ,local weather forecast on bbc1 this morning had

plenty of snow for us tonight

Its possible

Current alert level: Level 2 - Alert and Readiness

Issued at: 0829 on Tue 19 Mar 2013

There is a 70% probability of severe cold weather/icy conditions/snow between 0800 on Tuesday and 0600 on Saturday in parts of England. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services. Please refer to the national Cold Weather Plan and your Trust's emergency plan for appropriate preventive action.

Throughout the period temperatures will be close to a mean of 2C over a 48 hour period, especially across northern England, but with the East of England and the Midlands increasingly at risk later in the week. Occasional snow will occur across parts of northeast England from today until Wednesday night. In addition, from Thursday night and on through Friday there is once again a risk of more prolonged rain, sleet and snow spreading from the southwest, with northern England most at risk from significant snow during this event.

Currently 3.7°C in Darlo a high of around 5c is expected today
