Regardless of what's happening and what everyone's thoughts are. This so called super storm has claimed its first life as the search in Newhaven is too dangerous to continue and has been called off.

Really do feel for the young mans family. This is why the RNLI are the only charity i will donate to. Whatever the weather they are there

LBC 97.3 â€@lbc973 48m

The Met office say the #ukstorm cld last longer than thought up until midday. No trains to the airports. Southern airports may have to close

Following on from what Sky is saying is there something we don't know?

the media in the uk are pathetic with their over dramatic headlines.

Wait a while, it is coming your way, already getting worrying here. I can already hear the roof tiles lifting and clattering in the gusts.

some places in the south west at 981mb at present, average from models had 984mb at this time perhaps it will be more intense as sky say but then why no red warning from MEt?

Sky news confirming the possibility of 80kt winds is at surface level, and not  at 3000ft as initially thought.

wow!!

Raining moderately here, and not breath of wind. It's almost impossible for me to tell what's happening as far as upper air goes - the jet profile did look pretty messy though and prone to moving us out of right entrance/left exit + trough phasing possibly - still - cant rule anything out with this one

(Hi Piers CIAG - you'll get potentially shredded on any public forum unfortunately! - the vast majority of posters are astonished for the opposite reasons. I just hope you can weather that, and enjoy the forum if you have a love of weather - welcome!. maybe change your profile name?)

18Z NAE had it as 982-980mb at midnight so that sound about right.

Anyone know where and how deep the low is right now?

00h run doesn't show it Posted Image

Haven't a clue where, but my late father in law's barometer (very old and accurate - he was a pilot) says pressure is dropping rapidly now. 00:52 hrs and it's 986mb was 988 15 minutes ago. Every time I tap it it's gone down 3mbs.

Sky News did say 55kts-70kts with a possibility of 80kts, which is 60-80mph with a chance of 90mph. I guess nothing is set in stone just yet, they must still be quite unsure on how rapidly it will intensify over the next 6-8 hours.
