Yep, the MOD thread has been a bit stressful to say the least!!!  Not much to look forward to in the reliable at the moment, but we've all seen how things can change very quickly.

My mother must have told me hundreds of times how lucky it was that I was born early, even though she needed to stay in due to complications as it meant we were home just before it all kicked off. The neighbours were helpful providing extra coal for my young parents and me who had moved into the living room to cut down on the coal needed as it was difficult to get, along with milk, bread etc.  Mum said it was one of the most depressing times of her life and was delighted when it thawed as she could take me out for fresh air, rather than holding me in the front room with the window open each day!,

Wonder if that's why I sleep with a small window open in all weathers and temps.

On a side note, I'm one of the natwest customers affected tonight. So embarrassing at the little Tesco as I didn't know there was a problem at the time and wondered where all my money had gone.

John, you really need to get out more!!!  Seriously, excellent read, oh to see something like that again!

Saw it, survived it, never want to see it again, and I love snow and cold. I really have great worries if the modern infrastructure could survive, in 62 everyone had cold fires, local corner shops, power as was food was a problem but we had just come through a war and people knew how to cope, trains ran most the time but steam was still used so no power pick up problems, people worked near home, not many commuted, hardly any cars on the road, goods still where delivered by train, again not that many lorries delivered food. People mucked in looked after the old and infirm. These are just a few of the differences, believe me it was tough, you didn't live through it you survived.I have written a few stories about my time during this period and you will find them scattered around this site, from memory most where in the 50th anniversary thread under historic weather, if you want to find out more I suggest you dig those out. I won't bore you anymore, because I haven't got the time at the moment :-)Have a nice night. Which will be more than I will, her indoors work late tonight so being a loving husband (whose still in the doghouse) put the dinner on and went to pick her up, guess who put the wrong oven on, I'm digging my hole deeper by the day.

its one of them funny situations where

i would lke to experience something like a 62-63 winter in my weather enthusiast mode

but in the real world mode

probably not as we seem to grind to a halt with 3 inches of snow

one things for sure we cannot stop mother naturePosted Image

Yes, you're probably right, a 1947 or 1962 would probably lose its novelty fairly quickly.  Perhaps a re-run of 1987 would be best; a week long snowfest (22 inches where I lived at the time) would do me nicely.

Do we see some snow for a time after rain on Thursday or not... That is the question for is folk.. Looks like we have a small window on the back edge of the cold front on Thursday evening for some sleet/snow before pressure builds in and we have a dry northerly flow abruptly cut, still rather cold feeling however!
